Taking a cue from bluesky's still-active thread on songs that blew you away, I'd like to ask you all to dredge your memories and call up TV themes which you found you liked. Not necessarily because you liked the show, but the theme music was cool/rockin'/memorable.

Right off the top of my head I can list a few:

Johnny Quest
Lost In Space (both versions). Yeah, I know the show was pretty awful but John Williams' genius was apparent even back then (Yes, THAT John Williams)
Get Smart
Mission: Impossible
Man From UNCLE
Space: 1999
UFO
The Magician
Mannix
The 70's version of The Price Is Right
Six Million Dollar Man (I can even still quote the voiceover...I need a life:D)
Wild, Wild West

Courtship of Eddie's Father
Gilligan's Island and the Brady Bunch were a great sing alongs.
Land of the Lost was another fun sing along.. Great harmony at the end..
Pee-Wee's Play house was a great trippy theme...
Bonanza gets a full mention..
The second I heard the Rifleman theme I would go running for the TV

Oh.. Lost in Space was kind of kooky 60's theme..
But we ALL looked forwarding to seeing the I Dream of Jeanie opening credits.. ;)
 
I was also gonna say The Courtship of Eddie's Father. Harry Nilsson adapted his song Girl Friend to Best Friend to fit the thesis of the sitcom.

The Mission Impossible theme, written by Lalo Schifrin, was award-winning, as I recall.

ooh, how about George of the Jungle ("friend to you and me"), or, for that matter, any of the other Jay Ward cartoons (Rocky & Bullwinkle, Dudley Do-Right, and Super Chicken come to mind).

It was on several years before I was born, but that's a great song. I suppose the rendition of it in The Blues Brothers is what made it memorable -- for me, anyhow.
 
When I was kid it was Speed Racer (hey, I was 5) later one of the most memorable had to be Hawaii Five-O! Whenever I sit down at a drum kit that is larger than mine (you have to have at least four toms to really get it right) I love to play that beginning! And that led to Miami Vice later yet. Ahhh, the memories. I'm sure there were tons more in-between too. Oh remember The Greatest American Hero and Bosom Buddies?! I know they used existing songs but hey, they worked!

PS just so you know ...... there are a lot of full leingh vintage tv shows that can be watched for FREE ( no sign up or register) at HULU dot com . its great , i spend about 2 hours or so a couple nights a week watching old shows like . EMERENGCY 51, the rookies , the rockford files . the night gallery , twilight zone , swat, ADAM 12 , lost in space etc. and lots lots more (to many to list)

HULU ...go to the top of the screen and click on the TV link . once there you click brouse and look for full episodes . you can also brouse for full movies ,

also a new place i found for more movies and tv shows for free is "FANCAST" dot com .(seem to have a larger group's of tv show's and movies )

uh, Rockford Files...Mike Post did great ones along with Magnum PI. (great visuals on that one too!)

How about Quantum Leap, too?

Then Star Trek - original series, Star Trek - Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager - all really great and the later ones high end orchestral stuff that can rock your speakers.

Of course, there's Benny Hill, Are You Being Served?, Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Time Tunnel, My Favorite Martian.
