welcome to Ak, Steve.

I'm not really familar with either model, but I suspect both players are decent.

This may truly come down to which sounds best to you. Sit down with both, and listen to a cd or a few cds you know real well, and see which you prefer. Which sounds better to your ear? Which produces cymbal carashes more realistic? Which gives accurate decay of a piano note?

If there's no audible difference to your ears, then consider which has the features you like. Does one have the remote control? Another nice option is digital/optical outs, for use with an external dac, if you choose to use one later.

Lastly- do they both have parts availability still? Laser blocks age, and fail over time. Having a player with available laser assemblys makes for a repairable Cd player, vs a future door stop.

I would agree to listen but I would bet the Marantz will best it in depth and soundstage but your ears will decide.
