On a quest for high fidelity
I gave my dad a pair of SB-7000a's. Nice speakers! I think they'll sound better after a recap, but that will be some time before I get around to it. My dad redid the grill cloths and they look just like new.
Who else here runs vintage Technics speakers?

Have pair of sb7000a. I been looking for these forever and finally have them and love them. Amazing sounding speakers. They're just very picky with positioning and source dependent. Never heard such a clean sounding pair of speakers before. These are definitely my favourite now

Technics SB-M3
I just bought a pair of SB-M3. The units appear to all be working but the woofers need new surrounds. They were at a 2nd hand store for the price of a night out at the movies! A bargain! I saw a pair on auction over here (in Japan) in a similar state go for over 10 times that. I could probably sell these and make some money but I really want to listen to them. Does anyone have any idea on where to get suitable surrounds and then how to put them on? I've never done it before, so maybe with speakers like this, I should leave it to a pro...

I used to run some SB-1410 in the garage, they were good there, but I eventually passed them on to a mate who needed some speaks. These have the beautifully built cast aluminum cone tweeter, 5" mid and 10" woofer. Mine were cheap but very rough; both mids had been pushed in and torn to bits and one had no continuity, plus there were other issues. I managed to bring the mids back to life and painted the cones black to hide the scars of abuse. Photo from the web:
I'm not sure if my SB-MX30 pair is considered vintage but they seem fairly good. They are better built than many speakers I've seen with about 11 crossover elements, thick cabinets and good bracing. 1" tweeter and 7" woofer. Again I picked these up for a song needing surround repairs and with some minor cosmetic issues. The worst one is shown below, sans grill:

Listening to a pair of SB-F2's now, but i normally use either SB-10's or Yamaha NS-1000M's.
The Yammies gets the majority of playtime though, partly due aestethic reasons (they're in better cosmetic condition and have original SPS-500 stands).
By the way, did the SB-10's have their own designated stands?

Currently, my favorite kind of speakers would be vintage Technics, by a longshotAfter I got my first pair of SB-6000's, I was hooked. Next, I picked up their bigger brother, the SB-7000A's! What a great combo. It gets better, too. I have the chance to pick up another pair of SB-7000A's and a pair of SB-5000A's
I also have a pair of SB-F1's, and again have the chance at getting a pair of F2's :thmbsp:
I plan to one day own their whole lineup of good speakers, including the M-series (M1, M2, M3), F series, and of course, the SB-xxxx series. I absolutely love their sound, it is perfect in my opinion. Their imaging is spectacular. Best of all, they are so cool looking!
Anybody else run these and love them? I have not heard of anyone who doesn't like them. I would imagine the ones who don't just say so because of the bad reputation Technics set for themselves later on. Hi, I’m a Technics speaker collecter in New Zealand and I agree they made some of the best sounding speakers out there in the 70’s especially. I don’t plan on trying to collect all but I’ve built up a nice collection so far. All mint condition. SB-X700, SB-501, SB-F3, SB-C350, SB-7, SB-660, SB-XE2, SB-3500. My Technics amps are SU-V9 and SU-VX800, CD player is SL-PS900 , tape deck RS-B965 ,two turntables - an SL-Q33 automatic turntable with an SH-R808 infra red remote control unit, and an SL-6 linear tracking automatic. Another very cool item is a SH-8030 space dimension controller with graphic equaliser. I’m also a collecter of Whaefedale and Tannoy speakers and Marantz and Akai units. I am waiting on a guy to give up his Technics SB-10000 speakers, he’s promised me first option. Anyway, a big shout out and kiaora from New Zealand to all of you. This audio thing never ends .. and why should it?
Just picked up these the other day, SB-6000a . Excellent shape, but think I'll go with a recap, these things sound great so far. Anyone know if there is anything I could put in the cabinets to bring out the black a little more? Would also like to clean the dust caps a little more but they are pretty fragile and thin.

I have a pair of SB-5000A that have been sitting used and unused for a couple of years in my shop.
Just wiped one down with Simple Green cleaner and the transformation was amazing. They could go in the house if I finished cleaning them.

Just hit the buy button on a set of SB5000's over here in NZ. I got them for a crazy $30 NZD. I dismissed them at first since they where a no name local NZ brand 'national' but it seems they are the same as the Japanese built ones built under licence. Anyone know much about that arrangement? Will they be the same parts just with locally sourced wood for the cases etc. Will be picking them up tomorrow! I'll be hooking them upto my vintage Pioneer stuff. SA7100, SX780 and my pride an joy a SA8800. Seems like they might be a good match for the SA8800 which seems to have never ending power. These will be my 1st vintage set of speakers having only got a set of Wharfedale 9.5's and some little B&W 601 S2's and nothing else thats worth talking about.
