Who likes the TCC-750 PHONO STAGE?

Does any one have this phono stage? I read reviews on amazon but i don't know how creditable the people giving them are so looking for reviews from people who know sound.

I've got one and it sounds fine, doesn't call attention to itself or do anything bad but does not resolve as well as some of the other phono stages talked about around here. I'd say it sounds as good (maybe a little better) as the built in phono stages on many amps and receivers. If all you can afford is fifty bucks, it's probably a good deal.

Its a good unit that does what it is asked to do. Quiet etc. Its very tight RIAA compliance will make its presence invisible. But that being said, it is a pretty "clean" sound. Not cold, not warm. Just plain. If your amp does not have a phono stage and you are on an extremely tight budget, it is worth the $45-$50.

On the other hand, you could scour the classifieds, yard sales, or thrift shops, pawn shops, etc and try to score a good used SS amp from the 1970's and get a much better sound for the same or less $.

My HK430 cost me $25 at a yard sale. All it needed was fuses and bulbs and a can or 2 of DeOxit and its spanks major ass now. Sweet sounds for cheap.

I used my TCC unit with my Sony digital DTS home theatre system and it did fine. But the new "digital" recievers sound like total sh!t to my ears.
So that Sony unit and the TCC are both sitting on my floor collecting dust now, waiting for a future yardsale.

I have one built into the preamp from the same maker. I think it's fine after resolving some grounding issues. I had dismissed it earlier as noisy.

I have the same phono preamp, except the 753 which offers a single line-level input and a volume pot, in addition to the 750's RIAA input. The sound quality is very good for the money, or even for a bit more, perhaps. I like the fact that my switchable model lights up either a green or red LED, depending upon which input is chosen. The sound quality is clean and undistorted; better than I thought it would be. Hard to beat at the price.

Oh, yes. I, too, had an initial hum problem, but which was eradicated with grounding and placement.

I had one for a year or so, can't recommend any other new phono pre up to $120 over the TCC-750. I used a 2 amp regulated DC power supply with mine- it was better than the Project Phono Box (version 1) and the equal of the Creek OBH-8 with an OB1 power supply.

Any more details on grounding issues and resolution? Also, any more details on power supply you used instead of the stock one? Model numbers or specs?

The case was machined off a bit and would occasionally contact either the RCA's or the power plug. Besides that I was getting a lot of hum off the table and cart, made for a terrible few weeks.
