Why are CD Players so uninteresting?

i was thinking tonight about my gear, and in my collection, I have a Denon CD player in my reference system that is starting to go wonky. My thought is to replace it with one of the other units I have accumulated over the years. And then I thought, none of them are beautiful. They are all BPC! My other system is beautiful, and then off in the corner and mostly out of sight are my cassette player and my pioneer 6 slot cassette CD player. Again, uninteresting.

I'm hoping that the response to my title is an introduction to beautiful CD players including photos!

Lexicon RT10 players used are affordable and nice looking...they also happen to sound fantastic, 2 of my audiophile friends traded in Reference Rega and Marantz units after borrowing mine.

When they're operating you don't see anything. At least not with the CD players I've seen.

With a turntable, the tonearm grooves along with the music. That's pleasant to watch.

I agree . The first CD players were vertical loaders and you could see the disc play . They all went to computer looks . I sure the shorter profile was a factor .

I've been looking for some time now for the old Philips/Marantz/Magnavox top loader with the plexi top. I agree most CD players are just plain boring to look at.

I guess they are slightly more interesting than most amplifiers unless starting at a box with an LED on the front is interesting to some people. At least CD players have numbers on the front so they're at least as interesting as tuners.

At the mo got this one connected up to a Marantz CDA-94 dac (twin TDA-1541 D/A convertors)...sounds very nice!

Only has 3 feet though... 2 at the front and 1 at the back in the middle... rather like my Linn Sondek LP12.

My most used CD player looks like that: http://panasonic.jp/radio_casse/p-db/image.html?hb=SL-CT570-A&type=image Although on mine it's not "Anti-Shock Memory II", but "Anti-Shock Memory 4.0" - maybe a slight change for the European version, which also came with a less fancy remote control than the Japanese version (which can be seen there: http://panasonic.jp/radio_casse/p-db/SL-CT570.html), while iirc the US version was further downgraded and only sported the analogue line-out, but not the additional SPDIF output.

Anyway, I think it looks pretty nice in blue - and it's a nicely neutral to slightly warmish sounding little player with decent feature set and so far hasn't disappointed in terms of manufacturing quality and reliability. I really like that little thingy and typically use it with the external screw-on case for AA batteries and LSD-NiMH type cells in that in combination with a portable headphone amp plus headphone as "my little sofa chain".

I kind of like the "no nonsense" look of my Rotel.

The others in this thread are really nice to look at ( Some are pretty nearly works of art! ) but top loaders weren't know for their reliability / durability in the computer world & disappeared fast.

Then there is this:

Which is a key thing for me. Keeping the cost down keeps the CFO ( Wife ) happy.

I find it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission. More successful too when it comes to gear acquisitions.
