Why Capitalize Every First Letter?

It's not like it's some grand discovery that 50% of the human race is on the dumb-slope of the intelligence bell curve.

I know that on some sites if you try to type in all caps it will instead type it out like the OP.

That's interesting; I did not know that. I'll have to try to type in all caps on some of those sites and see what the forum software changes it to, if anything.

That's pretty severe methinks..

Methinks, clever.

Language, grammar, word usage and syntax are not fixed; they are always changing and evolving. If it weren't, we'd still be ufing "f"s infead of "S"s. Just like wee did in the days of olde.

Sure, I know language changes, especially when it needs to describe new notions or meet halfway between peoples who speak differing tongues. But I don't buy the inevitability of change as a reason to excuse people's being lazy, ignorant, stupid or (even worse) trendy.

What we're seeing today isn't a gradual process but a headlong rush into lowered standards, the Revenge of the Knotheads. People going to funerals in jeans, wearing ballcaps indoors (and while eating no less), walking down crowded sidewalks texting and blithely unaware of others, the younger no longer holding doors for the older, people going to Mass in flip-flops: we're Hellbound.

This "grammar Nazi" crap comes from modern people wanting their laziness and ignorance to not only be tolerated but approved.

If you want to be a lout have a field day, I'll tolerate it, Hell, I have to tolerate it. But I won't approve of it and will a lout and consider what you have to say accordingly (if I even read it),

I'm with Tom on this one.

There are those folks who use "text-spell" in normal writing. I don't care if they think it's cool or not, it's stupid, and should not be tolerated, much less accepted.

As far as change, absolutely correct. I'm still pissed off that simply because more than 50% of the population began to mispronounce the word "harassment", it's now officially mispronounced in the dictionary. That, I guess I'll have to live with.

"Vinyls", never.

So I take it that your opinion is that no one is allowed to voice an opinion about the grammar of others?

In any case, I haven't criticized grammar in this thread. I'm not even sure what you call it. More the 'capitalization' meme that seems to be spreading. The grammar is generally fine.

Do you have a nice photo of a 'Capitalization Nazi' you could post instead of engaging in discussion? That would be good, I think we'd all appreciate it.

I'm not making an argument at all. I just thought I'd share a somewhat relevant picture with a cat in it :)

"Vinyls", never.

I have yet to see a person who uses that term use it without intending to be obnoxious, although most will deny it when confronted. I am trying very hard to ignore it now, but I also ignore the person who uses it, because since their obvious intent is to be obnoxious, I don't wish to give them that satisfaction.

Call it a record or an LP and we can have a discussion. Call it a 'vinyl' and I'll move on to the next thread.

Text-spell when you have a full keyboard is idiotic. Hell, it's idiotic in general but there's no excuse for using shorthand created for an old number-key-pad on a computer keyboard.

How about the modern penchant for using "impact" as a verb, perhaps the result of a class of people who once understood the difference between affect and effect no longer knowing it while still knowing there is a difference?

That cat is awesome. I'd have named him Adolph, for sure.

You Named Your Cat 'Dolly'? Oh, How Cute!
