Why do you go on AudioKarma?

So a couple of years ago I was looking at some speakers. I went online to see if I could find any reviews on them. It kind of led me here to AK. I had not heard of AudioKarma prior to that.I started reading some of the posts and realized that there are some very knowledgeable people on here. Then I started reading some threads on other topics and found them interesting.
Now two years later I find myself going on here on almost a daily basis. I look for new posts, I look for ideas on upgrades, new equipment, and advice on various components. I am even looking for new jokes, nice pictures and other things. I have also discovered Bartertown which I tend to check out from time to time.
I am typically not a computer person. I don’t have Facebook or instagram or any other type of social media, but I am drawn to this site a lot more than I would have originally anticipated. I see some people with thousands of posts.

I found Audiokarma in 2005, while searching for info on speakers (I think).
Since then I've learned an incredible amount of everything... everything. And try to pass it along.
Best thing, I've met and made many friends. The AK community is the best!
These days I mostly drop in and share music and the arts and see what my friends are up too.

Both. I first came for the technical info but, like Ellymay, I have no social media presence and have found kindred spirits here. So now I also enjoy the off-topic forum sections, intelligent replies, and especially the wit & humor.

Once-in-a-great-while I'll visit my wife's FB page and a local city-government site. I can't believe the nasty, worthless, negative, sh!t-pit other sites have become. The AK is a gem. I might have to become a subscriber again.

Asking only workman's wages, I come looking for a job
But I get no offers
Just a come-on from 7th Avenue...............

Oh wait....that's a different hang out! Let's start over....

1. After 60 years of being in the hobby, I still enjoy it, even though mostly on the sidelines. No need anymore for buying very much.
2. I like the way audiophiles think - they are problem solvers, technically minded for the most part - engineers at heart if not in reality.
3. It is social media, but with a specific twist that I enjoy.

I have IG  Long, weird story. If your run of the mill social media sites like FB, IG, etc are the equivalent to Chevy, Ford or Toyota, then AK is the equivalent of Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Lamborghini. I'm glad you joined and it seems most of the folks here are.

When I joined, I had a great home system and was really into discussing audio. Things have changed for me, but I still enjoy participating in the general off topic (GOT) threads, especially the good morning thread. It's nice to see what is going on in everyone's life and weather conditions when members are inclined to post it. My current location, Hyannis, MA compared to other areas can be very interesting. Even off Cape locations in MA can be quite different from here.

Also, I like the smile thread, random thoughts and some others. There are some that I only read because I have nothing to contribute to the topic, but I haven't forgotten how to learn even though I have been carbon dated with inconclusive results.

Thanx for posting this thread.

Thanks. I feel the same way.

I really do enjoy it here. Don’t have any friends that are obsessed with this hobby as much as I am. Although I have a few friends that really enjoy music. They just take their equipment for granted. I don’t want to tell them that they could do better. I have mentioned it to them, but it doesn’t seem to be a priority for them. So I just let it be.
It is also nice to be able to share ideas and read about what equipment others have, and the appreciation they have for it. I have learned a lot here. I think one of the key things I have learned is just how little I know. It is wonderful that so many are willing to share their knowledge and help others. I feel like I am in a room full of adults that are nice with no hidden agendas to hurt someone or their feelings. This place is refreshing. Thanks to all who contribute. It is worth the price of admission.
