Why does the actual turntable even matter?

I mean if the audio quality is just in the cartridge/head theoretically couldnt you take a POS table and just upgrade the cartridge to make it amazing? I do understand there is also build quality and motor etc but I guess what i'm saying is you can make any low end but decent table sound amazing right?

No, actually the turntable is the most important part, not the cart.

Entry level Clearaudio here (emotion with satisfy arm) paired with a $4G Stradivari mc cart into a totl Ortofon mc pre is the best I've ever heard vinyl sound. I keep thinking about moving up to a 3'' thick platter but I don't know how much I'd gain and may perhaps lose the great synergy I have now.
