why does this guy hate fisher speakers?

He's probably listened to them. They're pretty meh.
I can think of others I'd rather immolate - but just because something is old doesn't mean a priori that it is desirable.

I've seen these videos. They're not high-end speakers, but they're still too good to deserve that sort of treatment. It's a shame that people will actually do this stuff to a perfectly good pair of speakers.

Good enough for you maybe. Certainly not good enough for me. Yes, I have heard most of them. In 45+ years at this I've heard a large number of unremarkable very forgettable products. Most of the worst were speakers. That includes some that are relatively popular "scroes" around here.

I agree with mhardy6647 "just because something is old doesn't mean a priori that it is desirable". To which I'll add "or that it's worth dealing with".

Those are the kind I love to blow up whenever I have the chance (and when I can find them for free). They suck...period.

Ahhh...that was fun to watch. :D

By getting them out of the gene pool of speakers, somebody has a better chance of lucking into something that's actually good instead of something that's simply old.

Well the fella's enjoying himself. That's what speakers are for, to provide enjoyment.

What's funny is the fella has a "tough guy" knife and soft, womanish hands.

I agree that they're too good to blow up.
But, if you place them about 300 yards out, they'd make the finest kind of targets!

Did they have a disclaimer at the end, stating that no "real speakers" were harmed during the filming of the video?

Best Regards,

For the life of me, I can't figure out how Fisher managed to make such good-sounding consoles and such uninspiring separate speakers.

Just like how Marantz, Pioneer, and Kenwood went cheap with their parts and craftsmanship. after '82 they went from good brutish quality to tinfoil paper tissue cheese crap.

You got to admit that fisher took plenty of abuse before it died. It makes you wonder how anyone blows a woofer by accident.

They could have made it more educational - compared overdriving the woofer with clean power vs clipping a low power amp.

there good enough speakers
Yes, for those videos.

The sad reality is that there were and still are some products in the world of audio that simply do not rise above the "pure crap" level.

Sure, those speakers could have served in a garage, basement, or family room somewhere. But lets face it, there is simply no shortage of cheap bpc speakers out there, and this fella really did the audio world a favor by ensuring that no one will ever have to endure their cheese grater level of fidelity again.

The youtube poster chose wisely. He could have done the same thing with more desirable speakers that actually have some sonic merit. In which case i can assure you the overall consensus in this thread would be very different.
