Why don't women get it?

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me there are very few women that get into our hobby. In fact I think most women couldn't care less about audio.Like my wife, I could put on some fantastic recording and she'll say it sounds "nice".I thought guys were the ones who were visually oreintated.:dunno:

I think there are quite a few women that are members of Audiokarma and like high quality sound reproduction.

Whether or not they choose to disclose that is their choice. I can understand why many don't. :drool:

I don't think anyone knows for sure, even the administrators.

I am a male, by the way. I've had girlfriends that loved music and fell in love with my system (or systems in the past), after hearing what recorded music can really sound like:D. I've also had a few that just didn't get it, and listened to music on a DVD player through a cheap TV's built-in speakers:puke:.

Obviously, I prefer one that can enjoy my hobby with me. I am still looking though.:wave:

I believe its true that women generally have better hearing than men. Its possible that they are less enthused by the wonderfulness of audio equipment because they are less fooled by it -- perhaps they can hear the imperfections more clearly than men can. I also think that they are way less into the competitive/macho aspect that is typical of much of audio -- now its especially obvious in the car audio world, but the same sort of one upsman ship that is so flagrant there used to be be equally evident in any high end salon.
My wife and daughters like listening to music and they appreciate having a nice system, but the only pieces of equipment they have really noticed enough to comment about are the Mac C22, JSE 1, Bozak 302, and the Micro Seiki RX 1500. I take this to be pretty strong evidence for the acuteness of their hearing. Unfortunately, usually their opinions are only made known when they complain after I've sold the thing they liked.

Probably for the same reasons we don't go as batty over leather purses, shoes by the hundred, hairstyles, and dresses as they do.

...or at least I hope we don't get it.

Remember, even as males in general go, we "audio enthusiasts" are a distinct minority unto ourselves.
 
They do get it. Most of them grow out of it after college, but we don't...and most of "us" don't get it. :scratch2:
 
Women are more interested in the melody and the lyrics. That is why "hooky" songs are more liked by women than men. Men are more likely to be concerned with how the final product came about, and the women are just interested in the song. Just as men are concerned with supper, and not how it got there! LOL. Of course this is in general. Many women appreciate the gear and the sound. Many men appreciate cooking and food. I'm sure that if the gear and the food brings good company, all is well. When my wifey said, I want my own vintage system, I said, shall I make you some of my famous spaghetti???

Sounds like someone who doesn't work with women. I've spent the last 11 years working with teams that are primarily women. For several years there were 18 women and 1 man, me. You wouldn't believe how competitive women are. They simply have different interests for the most part. The women I do know who are into audio, are very much like the men I know who are.

Perhaps, but we don't care for shoes or handbags, so it all evens out.
 
I think it is fool hardy to judge anyone by group. The women in my life demand a dance beat or lyrics in their music. They have no admiration of musicianship, and would never just sit and listen to music. However there are many women who enjoy music and the musicians who produce it, just go to any classical presentation, opera or jazz concert. IMHO

What makes me think you didn't use her appreciation for Audio as one of your criteria for proposing to her? :D
 
My girlfriend gets it and had a pretty decent system even before I met her, but she doesn't feel the need to upgrade.

It's probably related to the same reason that men typically aren't as faithful as women...the same genes that make us look at every attractive woman that walks by are also probably working on our satisfaction with our stereo. "It sounds great, but what could I be missing?"
 
My wife definitely appreciates good music and quality reproduction. She is just not into the obsessive/nerdy aspects.

While I am not up on all of finer points of her hobbies, I feel like I "get it" and can have a conversation about them too.

Right. Audio/Video Gear, cars, computers, technology in general are mostly guys hobbies.

My wife enjoys good music, even can appreciate good sound, but has no interest in audio as a hobby.

I appreciate photography, but don't read up on all the latest trends in scrapbooking like my wife does. I like wearing a nice warm sweater but have no interest in knitting. I like eating a piece of homemade pie, but have no interest in baking.
