Why "Flipper" is an F word here.

I did say there was nothing wrong with flipping the equipment, its knowingly ripping someone off for said equipment you are gonna flip, big difference.

I don't know what you do for a living, but I'll bet there's someone out there who can do a better job, and for less money.

Now, go to your boss (if you have one) and offer a refund of your wages.

Fair is fair, isn't it?

Taking advantage of people in unfortunate circumstances is a disgusting practice, in the same vein as stealing from charity drop-off points. I have no time for people like that.

We all buy/sell/upgrade/collect/store/use and my hobby and passion is driven by good buys, repairs on classic gear and smart sales at the right time to people who paid good prices.

The only reason the vintage bandwagon has survived is due to the efforts of blokes like us, who simply couldn't let this magnificent gear go to landfill all around the world in the 1990s when it was being thrown out in vast numbers or given away. Those days are mostly gone, but stuff at a yard sale for $2- that's fine. Low balling someone who really needs the money, that's wrong.

Oh, and by the way, the saying is couldn't care less.

....Personally, I could care less....

Let's flip/turn your ethical table. How is accepting a 67% discount from fair market value not considered "bending someone over"?

But the question is do they have any interest in doing my job? you might be surprised what I do for a living. it involves being fair deals for their stuff, and yes I always offer them the oportunity to get more money over a longer period of time. most people take that option, the ones that don't want that option, thats when I get a deal. Nothing is done without full knowledge of the person involed, and believe me when you treat people fairly, they line up to do business with you, everyone seems to understand I need to make money, no one has argued with me yet.

lets just say, I had the chance to sell a large amunt of very valuable stuff for a woman a "flipper" in the worst sense ripped her off terrible on a few pieces and when she found out she was PISSED, enter me...I sold everything for an agreed on percentage she didnt get the money as quickly, but she got a whole heck of a lot more money from me, I made out quite nicely too, and now because of her, I have more people to sell things for now, because she liked me and talked about me to some other wives whose husbands left behind some nice stuff.

some people do not mind having someone else do the work of getting the value out of things, some people have lives that do not allow them enough free time to sell off a loved ones stuff they cant or have no interest in using, some people just can't be bothered, but they also dont want someone to sail in and give them next to nothing for it either.;

maybe saying it this way will help.

Still, seems like a 20-30% margin is more than fair for your "services". Not 67%. :scratch2:

There's the big difference - you have nothing to lose. You don't have a dime of your own money invested in what you're doing (according to what you just said).

Things look a whole lot different when the purchase price comes out of your own pocket, and you have to turn it to feed the wife and kids.

so when somone offers me somthing I wanted at a great price because I didnt rip them off and lowball them like you would, thats "defeat?"

when peoplp offer me dinner give me some free records for helping them with selling stuff for them, thats defeat? When people tell you they wish they had found me before they sold certain records way below what they were worth? for far less than I am giving them, thats defeat? please explain.

they get more than half the sale.no guy rolls in and buys the stuff for that much. actually I should say my commission on my sales is 33% they pay the fees I pay for the packing material. so you think about it. they can either sell their poineer SX 1980 to you for $100 and ley uoi make $1500. 00 on it, or let me sell it I get 33% you get the rest minus fees. what would you rather do if you werent going to do it yourself? bet you didnt expect I actually live up to what I claim did ya?

Their really is only one thing that disgust me about flippers, at least most of them, that is they do all their business under the table.

Like many other trades and people I deal will everyone is working out deals under the table in order to get out of paying taxes on their profit. And what disgust me more, is when they then claim hardly any income to get all the freebee perks like Healthcare subsides, free child care, private schools vouchers, Earned Income Credit, you name it. The fact is that these business are doing it under the radar and because they get out of paying taxes, us in legitimate business pay way more in taxes, and we get none of the perks.

Myself, I mainly only purchase items that I think are already underpriced. But I don't buy anything really with the interest for selling, I mainly just collect. And for the most part audio gear is not something that I deal in very seriously. But really I don't get involved with informing sellers of values, I just buy if the price is right.

So if the OP is a flipper, and doesn't pay taxes on his profits, that is the only real thing I have an objection to. The occasional selling of used items after a person wants to get rid of it or move up, is not something I consider a flipper, that is as long as they don't use that as an excuse to justify their business ventures.

I have to pay taxes on my business, if I screw around and cheat, I loose it all, if Son't want everything I worked for to fail, I had better be honest. I have found honesty to be far more profitable than dishonesty. I could never steal enough to cover what I can make by being honest. I do nothing behind my clients backs, ever. I had someone almost tearfully thank me once because in the past someone had taken advantage of their lack of knowledge on something, sure sometimes things are a little lean, but then I get a new client and it picks up again. people have given me cool records and other gear as a thenk you for being honest. many of the people I deal with have had the " I'll give you $20 bucks for that" and then they sell it for $500. I dont have to look for the old lady who doesnt know what she has, there is alot more people out there who DO have a very good idea of what they have, and when they hear how I do business they fall over themselves to give me stuff, mostly because they have been rolled before.

agreed, but basicly 10c on the dollar is wrong and most of these guys arent doing this to just "feed their kids" c'mon you and I both know this.
