Why I stopped going to rock concerts

I don't like ear damage Jimmie, I like loud music.

There is no valor in accepting things as they are if they are unhealthy or destructive.

Sure there is. Motorcycle racing and mountain road carving are dangerous, and can prove deadly. That is what makes them fun.

As for loud music that can damage hearing, wear ear plugs. That way the volume is lower for you, and unaffected for those that want the full effect.

The real issue at hand here, evidenced by several of the previous posts, isn't one of concern for your hearing per se; despite the patronization otherwise.

The issue here is fairness. If there isn't enough fairness in the world some seek to try to create it through legislation. Problem is, there is never quite enough legislation to enforce the level of "fairness" some seek. Hence, they seek more and more and more..

Careful. You are on the edge of politicalspeak. :D

And who said the world was suppose to be fair?

It's simply my opinion, based on previous posts, of the underlying factor at play here. I'd sincerely hope that doesn't categorize it as political in the sense posting guidelines.

good post in approach, looking at this from above, from a clean slate as it were, with your personal views left out of the analysis

i like how you think

(not that i agree)

Can you please explain this fairness issue you see?

Without reviewing the entire thread, rebuke of CEOs, drug prices, and comments about corporate/business social responsibility strike me directed at fairness.

The rock concert SPL thing is just a microexpression of all that.

Got it, thanks.

I see it as protections to make the tribes quality of life enhanced.

and business is not responsible for it's actions? Even in the case of tobacco which knew and covered up the links from tobacco to health problems?
Even worse, launched campaigns of disinformation. (Philip Morris)
I can't wait till Big Pharma is finally nailed.

The multi-layered industry that is Rock & Roll has not covered up anything.

The Who, Record Labels, McIntosh, Bill Graham, Deep Purple, Gibson Guitars, Pioneer, John Scher, Live Nation, the Beacon Theater, Creem Magazine, Rick Rubin, Jimi Hendrix and thousands of others have done nothing nefarious to you or anyone else.

Rock & Roll is LOUD. That has never been dispute by anyone. Old coots and young longhairs both agree. We want it that way. You see, that is why the instruments are electric and plugged into amplifiers.

If it truly bothers you (although I suspect you are just faking this) then simply do the following:

1) Toss your stereo and all rock & roll.
2) Never attend another concert again.
3) Leave AK as rock is mostly what we discuss here.
4) Join the Moral Majority before they get you.

Long Live Rock- be Deaf or Alive.

Who the eff is "Jimmie", EL?
If you are going to have a conversation, its helpful to pay attention to whom you are speaking to ...
Its Heather to my friends ... but you can call me Heather ...

I could be 80 and still throwing the horns, I love live concerts. Last ones I went to was Heaven & Hell at Mohegan Sun several years ago and Arch/Matheos at the Webster Theater a couple years ago

NO!!!!!!

A pack of cigarettes here is $11.

I saw a young kid smoking at the Tom Thumb the other day and asked how much it costs to be a smoker these days. The kid told me he bought eight packs of a non premium brand with some sort of coupon for $45.

If that is the sale price for the cheap ones, does anyone even smoke Marlboros any more?

An anagram for "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas" could be "FAL IN LAV" ("fall in love").

Just saying...

No, it's "fall into the lavatory", something HST probably did a lot.

I saw something on tv once that addressed this issue. It was set in a world where society actively sought equality among the people. They realized that they'd never reach their goal if some people were smarter than others and also that while they couldn't make stupid people smart, they could make the smart people stupid. Their solution was to keep nearly everyone drugged until their cognitive ability was impaired enough to match that of the most idiotic among them.

The main character (played by Sean Astin, I believe) kept overcoming the drugs to excel over the other kids in his class at school, so after repeatedly increasing his dosage, they finally gave him a lobotomy.

It's been years since I saw this, so I can't recall it that well, but I don't think they ever addressed the fact that all human advancement stopped. It focused more on the trials of the main character. There was a side plot of a secret ruling class that were allowed to forgo the drugs in order to guide society.

If anyone remembers this show, please tell me the name of it. I'd like to see it again.

I never said they did. Read the thread and see why and how I used that.

We can have it that way without ear damage.

1) Toss your stereo and all rock & roll.

Why?

2) Never attend another concert again.

I can pretty much guarantee that for ya.

3) Leave AK as rock is mostly what we discuss here.

Now Jackie, I am goona think you don't like me.

4) Join the Moral Majority before they get you.

Has nothing to do with the thread or conversation.

I gotta say, I felt the tone of your post... unfriendly.

No need for that Jackie my friend, adults can discus disagree and get along.

peace out brother

We can have it that way without ear damage.

Yes.

The aforementioned ear plugs. Available at most drug store chains for a pittance.

Look into them.

LOL, you are gonna spend $200 to listen to live music and then you are gonna muffle it? I know some people do this and that is fine, it just makes no sense to me as I go for the music not the party atmosphere. No matter why someone goes it's all good, just sayin earplugs don't work for me.

I won't be looking into them my well meaning friend.

Let me ask you a question, why are you against responsible sound at rock concerts?

What is the downside?
