Why is Streaming so much better than anything else?

My thoughts about the "poor" artist.
As musicians get replaced by AI, the valuable job will be as a music PRODUCER, not as a guitar player, drummer or singer.

Consider the 60s when Groups with Hit Records, were actually just cute faces put on the LP cover and all the music contained therein was performed by the Wrecking Crew, or Booker T, or the Muscle SHores crew, or the Nashville crew who ground out albums like sausage.

AI will take on the roll of these studio musicians in a few years. So, as it was then, the PRODUCER was the key person.

The tradeoff is this, physical media has value after you purchase it but takes up space. Streaming has value only as long as you pay a monthly fee and takes up no space but you are left with nothing when you stop paying the monthly bill. The question is are you a hoarder, or do you prefer to remain nimble and light on your feet? I am a bit of both and still cannot turn down used $1 records at thrift stores.

Bottom 4 door cabinet is mostly full of vinyls.

Also found the kids Loki in a box and added it last week. Been messing with it but always ends up back to flat or bypassed.

Sorry about all the silver face gear for those that don't like it.

No cleaning ritual required. I make playlists of various artists. I have songs saved and I can't tell you the artist upon hearing it but it's good stuff. I generally date playlists and I must confess, I discover so much new stuff, I rarely revisit old playlists, at least not too often. By old I mean 2015 or 2016. If all of my vinyl were able to have songs skipped from my phone, I doubt I would play through entire albums very much. There are always songs I'd skip in a majority of albums not because they're all bad but because there's other stuff that's better. I command a library of millions of songs from my chair for whatever mood I'm in
I often get together with a group of 4-6 guys for drinks and smokes and we constantly suggest songs to play. No one needs to leave their seat. That for me is the beauty of streaming from a service.

And, for the record
It's acceptable slang

"Yes, "vinyls" is a slang term for vinyl records, especially in casual conversations. It's a plural form of the word "vinyl", which is the correct singular form. The term is derived from the material used to make records, polyvinyl chloride (PVC)"

nope.

nope.

Nope.

No, "vinyls" is not considered grammatically correct; the proper way to refer to multiple vinyl records is simply "vinyl" as "vinyl" is considered a mass noun, meaning it doesn't have a plural form when talking about the objects themselves, similar to saying "water" instead of "waters.".
I'll be grumpy old man about it, hate the term, will never use it, will always correct anyone using it.
Me Mudda taught english.

will always correct anyone using it.
BTW that's what many are hoping, as least the ones I have asked at the vinyls shop a few years ago.

"Why vinyls?"

"Because it's triggers old boomers like you"

"Well not like me, I'm part of the real generation, and not triggered"

I'm Gen X

My parents were the first boomers

sex pistols, suicidal tendancies were played side by side with the beatles and black sabbath on my stereo, then Metallica, Slayer, and megadeth began.

playing Passover by Joy Division as i type this, a live performance.

Good question...my iFi is aptX...it's pretty darn good SQ wise...however...when I want "better" or best SQ...going "wired" to the amplification serves me well. There definitely is an audible and enhanced SQ.
Agreed it doesn't match or surpass wired yet IMO, but the bandwidth used is now very close to the theoretical values for lossless BT transmission. Most people have no idea as to the specs of the newer BT codecs and treat the medium as if it were still a decade ago and we're using Bluetooth 4.x. It's likely just people repeating what they've heard said without investigating on their own; when someone says that AptX or LDAC aren't hi-res, I sincerely doubt that they have any idea of what they're talking about.

I'd wager most folks on here wouldn't be able to detect whether I've switched to a wired or a wireless source; not everyone, sure, but almost everyone...

I have never, ever heard anyone refer to a record as a "vinyl" as a singular. "I'm going to the store and buy a vinyl". Huh? If the singular is dumb then the plural is only slightly less dumb as at least some people use the plural term. Call them what you want but a vinyl or vinyls is not a term I'll ever use.

Using the descriptor of what they're made of to differentiate what you're selling is smart. Customers can logically assume what that store is selling. That's fine. I just don't see anybody referring to buying a vinyl. Maybe it's a relatively new term and I'm out of touch. Okay. I, personally, have never heard of anybody using such a term for a singular record and I've been buying them for more than 50 years.

IMO, what streaming is better at is being a DJ; my albums and CDs won't play themselves. And with Pandora, I get a DJ that plays stuff I like.

I've had this happen with Apple Music also. Many times, not just once. I would drive around, listening to one of my playlists over CarPlay, and notice that one song has started sounding very strange and unpleasant, completely different from how I remembered it. I would go home, check the playlist on my Mac, and discover that the song had been replaced with a "radio mix edit" or something like that.
I have no idea why this happens, but it does happen. And when it does, it annoys the hell out of me.
Not to mention that some songs simply disappear. Just like that. Sometimes I get a vague feeling that I haven't heard a certain song in quite some time, although it should be in one of my frequently played playlists. I then open the Music app and see that it's indeed in the playlist, but it's greyed out. And it doesn't play. And it doesn't appear in searches anymore, so removing and re-adding it doesn't work. Well, the removal does, but I can't add it back because it's not in Apple Music anymore.

Physical media wins the repeatable provenance contest, alright. My friend has had Apple Music even remove content he had loaded via CD (iirc).

Another thread raised the spectre of companies/producers Auto-tuning or otherwise automatically processing classic old recordings indiscriminately, in the name of improvement. With physical media, what you play is what you get, same as last time. Yes, records degrade, but the mixes don't change.

I like the accent wall. I did something similar in a bedroom and closet, with reclaimed lumber. Pics aren't great.
On topic; as much of a luddite as I am, even I use online music streaming. Especially when I want something on in the background and don't feel like selecting music from CDs or whatever.
