This thread is a funny read, The title kind of had me saying sarcastically to myself, this should be good.
Why men think there are few women into audio?
I am not sure this is true ^^ well for me anyway... I think the question should be
"Why do men seem to collect and hoard audio gear more then women"? - Now this is something that I can admit to when dealing with the women in my life.
As an avid music listener since birth, and have 4 sisters who all share my love for Music and Audio and a wife who is also a big music lover. My mom is also a wealth of knowledge when dealing with Music history, especially of the 70s & 80s metal era. My grandmothers on both sides of the family were both huge huge music lovers, on my moms side my my Grandma gave me a love for early country, Alabama and Mearl Haggard, Eddie Novak and the such, on the flip side on my dads side my grandma was a huge Elvis fan, it was almost to much lol she had a massive 6" airbrushed on velvet Elvis picture hanging above her fireplace for as long as i can remember, we still have her album collection in the family, have a number of the early sun recordings. Both of them had a few tube cabinets in there houses. The Women in my life have pushed me towards music more than anyone in my life.
I think some men like to collect the gear, but that is not to say there are not a lot of women who collect gear as well, Just a few months ago i purchased a really clean HealthKit AA-30 tube amp for a lady in my area. She was a hip chick too, she knew her gear, we start talking price and she starts hounding me on the price of the 7199s and how she had already set the bias and swapped a few caps. She knew her gear enough to get another few hundred bucks out of me... I also sold a Pioneer CTF-4242 to
@needforspeed last year, that was pulled from a complete stack owned by a woman. She had recently upgraded to a different system, and was letting her original purchase she bought new in the 70s go to a new home. I still have the table to that stack.
I think more men hoard and collect gear, why that is i have no idea. Maybe we think it will be worth something at some point in time. All i can say is in my experience the love of audio is not even 50/50% when dealing with the genders, its 100/100% - I think there are more women who are more into the music and listening and there are a lot of us guys (myself included) who seem to hoard the gear.
