Why no fully equipped surround sound receivers with no amps?

I also agree, Kent, 5 channels is what I have configured (though the Integra pre/proc is early version ATMOS configurable capable), but in my case, (4) HP/LD 12" woofers in the (2) Mc. XRT-30 speaker system`s bass cabinets readily negated any need for subwoofers, especially with being powered by (2) huge Mc. MC-1201 mono block SS amplifiers wired for 240 V, so in 2003 when I purchased and installed the XRT-30 speaker system, I moved the (2) living room`s in use, L/R sited Velodyne ULD-15 400 watt servo powered floor firing sub woofers to my master bedroom to assist the, IMO, weak bottom octaves of the Mc. XRT-18 line array speaker system already in use there.

XRT-30`s LF`s bass output easily readjusted my house`s hanging pictures during spirited SPL`s use of the living room`s system.

My point is that 4k or 4.2k $$ is low cost to some, middle of the road for some, and high cost for some.

One of the reasons someones "budget" is good info in most threads about cost when looking for new gear.

I would never pay $4k for a HT processor, but I would for a 2 channel amp, pre-amp, TT ect. For me that would be on the upper end of my "mid level" price point.

While I admire the quest for perfect sound , I’m glad I’m not afflicted with the golden ear ! 4k while I know that’s just above entry level these days seems crazy to a cheap old geezer like myself ! Especially when I enjoy my old dusty vintage gear so much to each his own . May all enjoy their audio endeavors !

Sounds like the OP wants all of the features of his Yamaha AVR but in a lower profile package. Just remove the feet on the Yamaha AVR and you're gold.

Maybe there is a size aspect, but I got mainly he wants a full featured pre/pro at entry level receiver price point. Don't we all, that are into HT anyway.

We’d all like to have our cake and eat it too. For a minute, there was the Schiit Syn, which is exactly what the OP seems to be after, however, it was discontinued after tepid demand. There’s a possibility that it gets reconfigured with Forkbeard in the coming year or two, but I’m not holding my breath.

Find your self an older Mcintosh MX 160 HT processor. But if you need component and Super type inputs then you want a Mcintosh MX 151 Home theatre processor. But even at 25% of the original price or less they re still going to be costly for someone on a tight budget. But you will have room perfect equalization capability to voice your speakers designed by Lyngdorf which is handy for getting great sound out of your speaker system. Denon made a few as did Lexicon. My favorite was the MC 12.
