Wood meets Steel

:jawdrop:

Mighty fine work, Denny. The creativity and ingenuity that made this country a leader in product design and manufacture has not been lost!

I'd say it's near impossible to put a value on your new audio/video "rack".

Cheers.

agreed with all before me, that looks ridiculously excellent. i always wished i had learned to do metalwork.

HOT DAMN, DENNY! :thmbsp:

That is just beautiful! I'm looking forward to seeing all that Elite gear glowing through the tempered glass.

I mounted the two center base pieces the other night with 2 #6 X 1/2" wood screws in each corner. I then drilled and tapped the four corners of the main frame for 4- 3/8 X 4" fine thread bolts.

I didn't take pictures of it but I cut 2mm self adhesive craft foam to go along the whole edge between the wood base and frame. This was done to prevent any possible vibrations and rattles.

I just finished painting the insides of the side panels with semi-gloss black. I forgot to stain them and didn't like the color of the lighter veneer.

I will have the double strength glass cut tomorrow and will glue them in place with clear silicone recommended by the cabinet maker. This will also reduce any vibrations that might arise from loose glass.

I finished painting the inside panels last night and mounted them and the top panel this morning.

The bar you see screwed to the top of the center panel will help hold the top panel down. It will also help prevent it from warping in the future. Everything is screwed together so I can remove any panel if I ever need to refinish them for whatever reason.

This is what the finished project looks like. Gluing the double strength glass in with clear silicone worked like a charm.

I made a bar that will get bolted to the rear of the stand. This is for the tilting plasma mount I bought. It will make it a little easier to make connections on the back and allow for tilting the tv side to side if I ever want.

I think it turned out better than I could have ever hoped for. Now to rearrange my living room and get it filled with my new gear.
