XTC's English Settlement

I remember thinking it was a really grim album on first listen. It's funny but I never think of Xtc as a favorite band, then i look at how many LPs, CDs and tapes by them I own. Mrs Spideyjack was remarking about how much she enjoyed me playing Xtc all the time and I'm thinking "oh yeah I guess I do"

did/do you have the two LP english english settlement? i had the us version til two years ago.

I have the 2 LP version even though I have the CD.

My fave XTC is Skylarking (w/o Dear God and with Mermaid Smiled - better flow)).

Their best song (non-Dukes, of course) for me is Respectable Street. Reminds me of my snooty HOA.

Generals and Majors is also a great track. I was working on an Army base in Germany when this one came out, so it had a special resonance. I still listen to XTC pretty frequently.

The English pressing of English Settlement was on The Absolute Sound's list of reference recordings for many years.

English Roundabout is probably my favorite on that album.

Picked up an xtra copy

of the English import of English Settlement because I saw one in very good + for 4.99 @ a flea market. I stood there and asked the girl if that was the correct price because most of the other records were priced around what the Goldmine would list them. Took it home and cleaned it and man it was worth the money. Yeah this album does sound great but my favorite excursion with XTC if you will is side two of Mummer. So spacey and trippy that one is with a bottle of vino :music:

Always been a favorite band. Good article. and i learned what Conkers is and how to play :thmbsp: Now I just need to start making me a laggie.. .

I still listen to Skylarking pretty often, Mobile Fidelity, vinyl rip, sampled to 24/96 (great LP to go high-resolution/Mofi). Totally worthy of any kind of audiophile treatment, a really well-produced and engineered (Todd Rundgren) LP.

The newer 45rpm LP release sounds as good as anything I've heard.

Thanks for sharing this...

Black Sea was my entry point for XTC and it remains my favorite XTC album. Senses Working Overtime is still my favorite XTC tune, thanks in large part to the UK Virgin 12" 45 RPM I happily happened across not long before English Settlement was released here in the USA. Glad I waited to buy a copy of the album until I could get my hands on the double LP import.
