yamaha c-4 preamp problem maybe waterdamage?

I need to do that to my newly acquired (and sick) T-2.

I'm thinking I'll cap anything in the audio path and hope the squeal goes away and then send it to Mark at absolute Sound labs for a tune if needed.
 
I know. I resurrected my C-2a but it was a struggle for dumb ol me. A complex tuna like this one scares me a bit. Particularly without the right gear or knowledge. I got it on the cheap, but hopefully repair doesn't put me over the top of a working one.

No doubt. Wonder what it can do with some proper D-punch dies, etc. :smoke:

I'd just like a set of wrenchable dies to cut my M-2 back panel for Vampire/Cardas BP with the larger double-D holes, cut a hole for a panel mount AC outlet, etc. This Dremel stuff is nuts.

The pre-amps top case cover HAD some pretty nasty dents and gouges in it..The press took care of that nicely.

Another M-4

Hey Dave - I've got a C-4 on the bench right now that looks like it sat on the window sill with a ocean breeze on it for a bunch of years. Would you happen to have a list for the caps you replaced. It would save me some hrs if you could share with me. I've got to tear it down and clean all the boards etc etc. and re-cap. Lots of black goo on the boards and some resistors look to have copper corrosion (greenish/gray - hence the ocean view comment above) on the leads. I have not powered this unit on - the person I bought it from said it worked but after taking a look under the hood with some bulging caps and goo and such I thought it better to R&R first. cap list...anyone?

what's a tuna? isn't that a fish? or maybe a "tuner"? I thought the C-2A was a preamp ("control amplifier")?

reading this thread but just when I think I understood that some people on this forum call tuners "tuna"s for some reason, I see a preamp being called a tuna.

I just don't get it, or so it would seem.

i can see the slight difference in color of the switches.. those are the LEDs right?
they look more blue-ish.

Some tuner geeks (I'm one) call tuners 'tunas' -- I guess just to be 'different' like some folks spell 'score' 'scroe' ....

I am a member of a FM tuner group and there, 'tunas' is used just as frequently as 'tuners'.
 
Geez, Dave ... it's not just the LEDs I'm talking about! I mean you made his beatup, dented C-4 look like the winner at the beauty pagent. And, best, of all, looks is just a part of it .... wait till he hooks it up to his system. THEN he'll be really pleased.

Twas in reference to my earlier post in this thread;
