Hello all, just picked up this sweet looking Yamaha CDC 50 disc changer. Appears to be from the late 80’s (1989 manufacturing date) and I was wondering if any of you folks have info on this unit.

Oh this is one of the Carousal players you mean 5 disc not 50. Yamaha did have a 50 CD changer that used the Sony mechanism, they were not around very long. These Carousal players are very good, and in fact killed off the other changers. I have a Samsung carousal player in storage I have not used in years. They are quiet, a bit slow by modern standards and unlike the drawer changers there is no chance it will damage your CD's. I don't use mine anymore as I can access 100's of 1000's of music tracks in a fraction of a second with just a mouse click. Enjoy it Yamaha makes good stuff.

The indexing system on these changers is really quaint. When you want to change a specific CD you select it and the drawer opens and rotates the CD to the front to change.

Just tested it..tray motor is on the slow side, but it still functions perfectly. It’s rather strange having a cd player that’s larger than most of my other equipment.
If I am not mistaken this Yamaha, like so many others used the Sony carousal drive.

I really don't want a hard-drinking CD player; I prefer a gentle merry-go-round...
