I've been looking for nice examples of the big dog Yamaha pro amps and was extremely lucky to get a PC4002M that has never been used. Yes this amp is NIB!

The amp arrived this morning via FedEx. 112lbs double boxed. The first pic shows the outer box cut open and the original box inside.

Congrats Mark B.! Any chance we can see a nudie? Do you know if the PC4002M is based on any of Yamaha's home amps?

BTW, if I had seen it sooner, I would have jumped on it! Congrats again!!

Thanks Sam, I don't know how this one got away from you. I hate to touch a screw on this amp it's so perfect. I'm mulling over whether I'll pop the top on it, or post nudies from a used amp. The PC4002M was first manufactured in 1989. It doesn't look like there is a home version of the amp.
 
Don't know how you do it Mark, but that's one nice lookin' amp--bet it sounds great too :yes:

I'm curious what kind of outputs are inside. I'm hoping they are discretes like in the little bro' PC2002M.

Its incredibly hard to find any of the pro-series Yamahas that don't look like they've been dragged behind a truck by the power cord. This must say something about their popularity with the PA people, its easier finding clean Crown D series, maybe its just the cosmetics on the Yamahas are more delicate. NIB inspires lust.

I can't agree more. I've never seen one of these in such pristine shape. Mark, you sure are lucky with that nice Yammie setup. Great pics as well. Hope it sounds just as awesome

It's entirely possible the reason is that a bunch more Crown D series were used in the US market. After all, the Crowns were, afaik, essentially the standard for PA amps in the US.

And, likely as good as they are, even the new Yamaha pro amps aren't widely used in professional PA work afaik. Sure, some are, but nothing like Crown, QSC, Crest, Lab.gruppen, PowerSoft, Camco, et al.
 
Yamaha PC-4002M

Mark B you have probably the best collection of Yamaha under the sun. Hard to believe you located a NIB PC-4002M. Having a PC-4002M myself from what I gathered they were used extensively in major recording studios, sound reinforcement, large movie theaters and concert halls. Saw quite a few of the 2002 & 4002 listed for sale on a Japanese high end audio web site, every indication was that they were used in home audio in Japan as well as for pro. I was hopeing to use mine to power a couple of JBL 15" or 18" subs but I ran out of room and it's waiting for a new assignment. The Yamaha pro amps look very similar to the pro Accuphase amps and my guess is there is a very tight race between the two Japanese audio giants. I'v never had the fans start up on either of my 2002 or 4002 and I'v had the occasion to push the volume for long periods. Both amps were way over built to sustain the harshest use and still sound smooth. The Yamaha pro top dog was the PC-5002M, 500+ watts X2 @ 8 ohms around 150 lbs.

The amp looked pretty good in the pics from the auction, but I was sceptical that it was actually NIB. Boy was I ever pleasantly surprised when I unpacked it.
