Yamaha PC4002M (NIB)

I'v never had the fans start up on either of my 2002 or 4002 and I'v had the occasion to push the volume for long periods. Both amps were way over built to sustain the harshest use and still sound smooth. The Yamaha pro top dog was the PC-5002M, 500+ watts X2 @ 8 ohms around 150 lbs.

How about posting some nudies of your PC4002M? The PC5002M is on my short list of Yamaha amps I would like to add to my collection. I believe it weighs 135lbs.

Getting the Centennial Edition pieces sparked my interest in collecting TOTL Yamaha gear.
 
Here is a couple pics of my PC4002M. I had to take the rear panel off and straighten it after the morons at Fed Ex bent it. I'll have to take more pics of it back together but the pics are of the damage and while it was still apart to clean. If ya don't mind me asking what did the NIB PC4002M set ya back? I use my PC4002M to randomly power my JBL L-150A's, L-220's and in the near future the lows on my JBL4350's.

Wow, makes my PC-2602 look almost empty inside.:tears:

I love the way the power supply is connected to the output modules via the large cable running past the speaker terminals. The screw terminals are a nice touch.:thmbsp:

That amp deserves a name.:yes::D
 
WOW thats really nice I was looking at an old nasty one on e-pay a few days ago it was so bad and the starting price was 450.00 no one bid on it. Man NIB WOW!!!:music::thmbsp:

Great pics! Those trannies are huge. Looks like 7 pairs of outputs per side.

The NIB PC4002M was 1200.
 
Yamaha PC4002M NIB

Mark sorry I didn't get some photos up but I'v had to take care of buisness lately or there would be no $ for audio toys. The guy I bought my PC4002M from did quite a bit of research on the Yamaha pro line and in passing mentioned that the big boy, the PC5002M, went for close to 5K$ back in the late 1980s. If you get a chance check up on the Accuphase pro amps, not sure who copied who but without a badge it would be hard to tell them apart. My guess is Yamaha and Accuphase were dualing it out for the the top of the worldwide pro audio market and both were able to carry alot of the r&d over into the home audio market.

I just got the original service manuals for the PC4002M and the PC5002M. The PC5002M shares quite a few parts with the 101M (that's actually noted in a column in the parts list). The PC4002M doesn't appear to share direct lineage with any other Yamaha amp.

Nice call, the output transisters for the PC4002M are Sankens: 2SC3263 (NPN's), and 2SA1294 (PNP's). 6 of each per side.
 
Killer amp! :thmbsp: Those Yamaha pro amps are pure beast. Now you need another one so you can bridge 'em and unleash the 1400 watt goodness inside. :D
 
Just got the service manual for the PC5002M. These are the output transisters it uses:

2SC2608 NPN SANKEN 10 per channel
2SA1117 PNP SANKEN 10 per channel
 
Hey Mark B: How about a PC4002M v. MX-10000 comparo? It would be nice to know how good the PRO stuff is compared to the best ever Yammie.

I've been running the PC4002M in my main system for a couple of weeks, and it sounds great. As good as it is, I don't think it matches the MX-10000. That said, the differences between such quality amps is fairly subtle.

Sam, did you notice that the output transisters used in the PC5002M are the same as those used in the PC2002M? The PC2002M has 4 pairs per channel and the PC5002M has 10 pairs per channel.
