I got this YAMAHA R-V905 but it is not producing any sound, I can hear very little sound in headphone out at full volume but no sound in A-B speaker out.

Where should I start ?

Thanks

It's almost always (for me anyway) the ribbon connector right above the input selector switch. It's a bitch to access. 2 JIS #2 screws behind the faceplate for access. Good luck.

Let's start with the simple physicals. The ribbon cables are the usual suspects on these models. The connections come loose and/or get dirty. Reseat them.
Thanks for your help !

Update : The impedance in the back was set to 4Ω, changed it to 8Ω & it works like new ! I got this for $15

Nice! I love an easy fix like that! It's rewarding. Going forward...If it's a daily listener piece and the display gets dim intermittently, that's usually the 1st symptom of the ribbon cable. If you're the flipping the piece, I guess we'll say F the ribbon cables lol.

I have one more question. I am planning to get a power amplifier from the same person I bought this Yamaha but he doesn't have pre amp. My question is, do I really need Preamp ? I am using Universal audio Sound card as DAC. I assume professional sound cards give line level audio as a Pre amp, right ? Thanks in advance

Ya need a variable input source to drive a power amp. I'm not familiar with your sound card DAC so I don't wanna say yay or nay. I use dedicated pre-amps / control amps.
