Yes you can, and are hearing the cables ... They are in the signal path.

The laws of physics apply ...

You can't connect the components without them ...
They are in the signal path and they will be affecting what you're listening to.

There is an entire industry out there constructing and selling cables..
There are endless arguments about which construction method or cable topology does what, audibly ...
Which cable claim is snake oil, and which claim is plausible ??

There are unmeasurable, but audible cable effects and measurable, but unaccounted for cable effects.
I always hear the differences .. sometimes subtle, and sometimes not at all subtle.
I've constructed them, modified them, and simply listened to them over the decades ..

For a lot of people they're the last, but very necessary step in setting up and tuning a system...
And their effects are thoroughly system dependent ..

I know from experience that a lot of descriptions of the "sound" of a piece of gear, are often being affected by, and could be the "sound" of cable effects that the reviewer simply hasn't accounted for ..

YMMV ... Had to say it !!

It always surprises me when commenters on cables threads don't seem to account for, or understand that every cable coating material has a measurable and audible capacitance that is affecting signal propagation within the cable ..

I see differences with cables often at work. That said, it is 100% more about the shielding not materials used. IME specing out cables for proto-type builds quality materials can be cheap or expensive. Quality is quality independent of price.
Just commenting on my experiences not doing a back and forth defending it. Just food for thought, take it or leave it.
YMMV

And hearing acuity isn't a given either ...
I get it that there are certainly people who aren't hearing the difference, and people who can ..

Grew up with musicians in and out of the house .. I was 10 but they would hand me a guitar and ask me to tune it ..
Lazy .. sometimes yea, but I was faster at it than they were ..

I've had a few IC's that sounded the same to me- Blue Jeans, audioquest Diamonbacks and Cobras? Neither one was over $60 used. But others had an obvious effect that was either worse or better. Mogami 2549 at $25 sounds superior to them all and has replaced all the blue Jean cables. They make the Blue Jeans sound rolled off in comparison. The difference that might account for that is that the BJ's have heavier shielding. Who knows? The Mogami have a grounding scheme that has one end lifted and are directional for that purpose.

I expect that that result is system dependent and I only tested them in my SS system with high efficiency speakers. Perhaps with the tube amp it might have been a different result. I'm happy with these but then I've never tried a higher price tier.

It's always made sense to me that Mogami and Canare cables sound good, and are great value for the money ..
Unlike a lot of cables, they're specifically manufactured for professional audio purposes .. and they clearly chose their materials with specs and an ear to which one sounds better ..
They both use proprietary coating materials .. and always have clear capacitance specs in their marketing sheets ..

The loudspeaker cable discussion is one of the few not influenced by nations, politics, religion or other entities.
It proves all people around the world are alike

It also proves there is no progress, otherwise it being worldwide, because of the internet.

I was not aware of that, 40 years ago.

In the meantime, I still use the same cable I did, 40 years ago.
