Your Lamps/Lights for the dark…

My parents had one of those a million years ago. I always thought it was pretty cool and it worked reliably for many years (I think recirculates oil that doesn't evaporate). I'm not sure what happened to that light -- they never threw anything out, but haven't seen it when I visit them.
 
Ah yes, the recycling mineral oil lamps. My next door neighbors had one when I was growing up, with a Romanesque figurine and greenery in the center of it. They always had a regal kind of French provincial vibe to their house which really wasn’t my thing - it seemed to want to impress. Very socialite/country club types, I just couldn’t relate - lol.

Those lamps seem to be very collectible, and gather a decent sum on the auction site. Just another chapter in the weird/wonderful era of the 60s/70s. Feel really lucky to have grown up experiencing that era in its entirety (music, decor, fashion, and weird opulence). There’s been nothing, even close, to being like it since…and maybe that’s not a bad thing. Beatles to disco (and the weird journey in between) - GREAT memories though!

I got rid of the light boxes in my last move. I kept the stereo control units thinking someday I will put up light strings and plastic panels again. I remember how nice the lights were with music.
 
My son played in home music studio the other night and the guy used a bunch of those cheap aluminum clamp-on worklights with red, green, and blue LED bulbs to create a really cool feel around the room. He probably had about 15 of them around the room and it really looked cool -- wish I had snapped a decent picture of it. He was using something like this reflecting on the walls:

The bulbs were something like this (you'd have to get the brightness just right -- I'd guess somewhere around 40w or 60w equivalent LED's):

Old Sensor and new light for a dark hallway.

My hallway sensor light went kaput about a week ago. I had it turn the light on just long enough for people making a transit. I pull the sensor and been trying to find a replacement. Local stores are selling in the 20 to 30 bucks for the same old fashion sensor. Then I found this LED sensor + light. A quick test shows it will be a better replacement. I just love the new stuff coming out to make my life easier.
 
Picked up a pair of vintage 60s/70s lamps for the man cave a few weeks ago. They need new low watt LED bulbs on top, and think I’ll get creative with something for the small inner bulbs for the bottom. Currently they use a clear nightlight size bulb, but I think I can do better than that! Maybe a flame flicker bulb? So many options now available with LED bulbs, need something fun in there. Might even use a color bulb on top for mood lighting. Blue maybe???

Starting to get darker earlier with fall coming on. Time to engage with the mood lamps again!

When I got a quad receiver in the mid 70s, I added four RGB color organs, using bright colored flood lights. I had one CD-4 LP with a track that did a rapidly circling pan of a guitar - definitely felt like the room was spinning.
 
Not for the listening room but we picked up a couple of Blue Velvet hangers for the kitchen island the other day. The Mrs LOVES em!

Never thought we'd have Blue Velvet anything in our house. I definitely dig em though!

...and my lightbox and absolutely essential louplamp at the bench are the lights I use on a daily basis of course.
I simply wouldn't be able to do what I do if I didn't have that louplamp! I replaced the stock CCFL ring bulb with an LED version and it made it 1000x better :)

Neither did I, until THIS came along - it’s a hanging swag lamp I picked up at an estate sale. The look on people’s faces as I carried it out the front door were priceless (Strangely judgemental and flabbergasted)! I, knew what I had! Went straight to the 70’s man cave in the garage (surprisingly not allowed in the house). CRUSHED blue velvet is even MORE special! Elvis would approve! Yours are classy, mine…not so much - but it’s unique, fun, and very tacky 70’s - so it met all of the criteria for the man cave! Really, fairly hard to believe someone had this in their house as a legitimate decorating item, but that was the wonderful 70’s! All mine now, whoo hoo!

The wife just looks, without saying anything, and slowly shakes her head…. :rflmao:
