Picked up a Japanese sample pressing of Get Happy by EC and the Attractions, and after careful comparison with the original USA Columbia, MOFI 45RPM, made in Germany F-beat pressing, I have decided that this one is the best sounding. The MOFI copy has some sort of “phase distortion“ If you can imagine how a wrinkled tape sounds as it plays. I am not saying that is what is wrong, but when compared with the original USA Columbia, and Japan F-Beat pressings, the sound is more pronounced. The German copy is just crap with distorted highs and sibilance. Unbearable to listen to in my opinion. The Japanese copy has more lows, more dynamics, and that phasing distortion is minimal. That distortion could very well be on the master recording, almost like an over-saturated compressor or something and the Half speed mastering of the MOFI copy makes it more pronounced. The MOFI copy is also lower in pitch by a few cents when compared with the other copies. So to conclude. This Japanese pressing has more bass, more dynamic range, and the overall sound is quite pleasing. Oh, the USA Columbia copy sounds great as well, but is a little bit brighter in EQ than any of the other copies.
