Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

As I am getting ready to blast in with a pair of those same D210Ti's in a KLH, would someone please post instructions about these foam plugs? I read fish tank filter foam (reticulated) at 30ppi. I'm a bit foggy on the sculpting and placement. Is it in the WG or in the driver itself?

Big JBLs, Keg?

The Azurahorn/Lowther thing would have been interesting to hear. I have yet to hear a lowther based system I liked but I'm always willing to give things a shot.
 
Pix of foam plug for throat of EWave

Here are some pix of the foam plugs that Keg put in my eWave horns. I compared this material to the foam that came in my fish tank filter and the fish tank filter foam seems coarser and stiffer than this.

Well, dang. That looks easy. Just cut a ~34mm ball and slice it more or less in half, insert in throat of waveguide. That's simple enough that I bet I could manage it! :stupid: That should add little 2-3mm crinkles to the notes as they come out. I see.

I contend that OLAs are boomy with boundary reinforcement; that's what my measurements say. They were up against L100s at introduction; I believe it was intentional. I've gotten into a nasty dispute about this here on AK.

I also contend that, contrary to prevailing opinion, the OLA (Masonite) and NLA (steel-frame) woofers are NOT equivalent. Refoam a pair of the originals and see if that is not so, maybe.

In any case, thank you for hacking a trail through the Advent undergrowth here. I suspect there will be many more new E'Wavers plying your path.... :yes:

It's actually been a pleasure to convert these Advents, and far less actual work than I expected. The process is not trivial but far from challenging to someone with minimal technical skills and a little patience.
My experience with the ELA and NLA confirms your take on the bass response. I have a pair of OLAs with the Masonited woofers. When I refoam those drivers I'll try them in these cabs and report on the differences.

You're welcome. W/R/T T-Nuts I took a little different approach with Unit II of the Advent conversion. It seemed like overkill to use 10 8-32 T-nuts to attach the horns on both. For the second one I drilled 1/16" pilot holes and used #8 X 3/4 wood screws to attach the horn. That worked fine, as with 10 fasteners they could be snugged down lightly and had no danger of pulling out. From now on I'll save T-Nuts for the woofers and for any drivers that will have to be removed in the future.

Wish the low bass was a bit better, but as Zilch has said many times that is the
tradeoff with this efficiency, still wondering if there may be better woofer option.

What is interesting is my first thoughts before even reading anything was to take
the drivers out of those boxes and build a piramid shape, line up the drivers mirror.

But nothing will happen till after winter that is for sure around here, so for now its
play with what is there, see if there are any improvements an just use um.

Anyone have any thoughts on the tweets, how do they compare to others, can I
try them in my waves?

2235H (as Gold uses) or LE14H(-x), of course, but you're gonna take a 5-6 dB efficiency hit. E145s are killer woofs; you'll need a sub or two, tho. B380 or Citation 7.4 come to mind.

If you want butt-cheek E'Waves, use 2342 horns. 2404H will not play that low; it's a UHF ring radiator. UHF is itself a misnomer -- the H-1 versions in your 4628Bs use the heavier 2402 diaphragm for increased power handling, and roll of somewhat lower than the spec sheet shows. Their forte is their constant-directivity dispersion. No conventional tweeter does what 2404H does:

Gotcha Zilch, I was just going by the 3K xover in the 4628B and was thinking if they
did it then might they have a slim chance to play in my wave at like 93db to test um.

Yah I see that would change how they work completely with the other horn/system.

2426H has a thread-on throat which may be accessed by unscrewing the adapter on its face for bolt-on.

I love these E-Waves! What a splendid little speaker project. Come on all of you on the fence. It's easy, it's cheap and it's GOOD!

Now I am wondering where to get adapters to run LE85 with the PT 1 3/8" threaded horns..?

We got them from P E. I think they were like a buck and a half.
