No, they are 15", but they must have some decent upper extension. I used a pair of these in college for doing mobile DJ.. weddings, parties, etc. They are very efficient. They also definitely have some thump... although I never tried to use them for critical listening.. But they were fun!:D

Hey Cosmos, I think those would make kick ass Ewaves. I think that CV woof goes up to 2000hz so it is a perfect woof and at 100db, you would not need a lot of power to drive them. it's too bad I could not light up my ESS Ewave when you were here, they sound great. Cheers.

We'll see if CV can do EWG.. I think it will need the >95db crossover.. :D

Actually, class using and abusing 8x8 Econowaves.
Tried to make them look presentable (the speakers,) but did not have enough time to load in the new PC crossovers.
Haywired external breadboard crossover elicited some strange looks. The sound did away with all of that.

I have a pair of New Large Advents, so I've placed the waveguide on top for initial testing. I'm not very knowledgeable with regard to speaker measuring and active crossover setup, but I've learned a bunch reading the first 70 pages of this thread, so far :nerd:

So, microphone 1 meter from speaker, in line with the tweeter, using TrueRTA and limiting bass to 200 hz I've managed to get a smooth response (+/- ~ 2.5 db) with minimal effort. I am letting the Advent inductor do it's thing on the woofer, and I played with crossover point and phase on the waveguide. A bit of EQ, too, but I can't recall just now exactly where or how much.

I am stunned at how good these sound :ntwrthy: I notice an ease, seems like the sound just flows out of them. Clarity like I've never heard, too. Hard not to get a little carried away with the volume. The waveguide also seems to elevate the performance of the woofer, too. Very nice bass now coming from those boxes !

So, big thanks to Zilch and all who have contributed !! I'll be back when I get stuck, if ya'll don't mind.

Next up, try it on my Altec Model 19's. Here's the adapter kit. Nice to have access to a water jet:

Regarding the Advent crossover, I have some experience with the Utility version from my conversion. I found that the woofer choke in my stock crossovers measured around 1.5 - 1.6 mh, right in the ballpark for the low sensitivity woofer lowpass for Econowaves. In the crossovers that I have there was no cap across the woofer, so the rolloff was first order. For a cheap approximation of the 'real' econowave crossover, pull the woofer and clip a NP cap of 10 - 15 uf (12uf is the specified value) across the terminals. I think you'll be within a few percent of the correct slope.

Note that Advent made a number of crossover versions and it's possible that yours is different. Here's a pic of the remains of one of my removes crossovers for reference.

I heartily endorse the Advent conversion. I documented my conversion process in this thread:

EWave A25s is an interesting idea. A few years back my neighbor gave me a teak pair that had been painted black. They've been stripped but still look kinda scruffy. Might be just the thing for experimentation. I wonder if the baffle is wide enough, though.

The A25 is a 3-way with dome mid and dome tweet. Does anyone know offhand what the crossover points were?

<EDIT> A25 baffle is at least an inch too narrow for the horn, so tht would have t obe an 'outboard' application.

I hope you like the sound. You've probably discovered that the ewave horn is a bit too wide for the front baffle of that Advent cabinet. jackgiff has a solution involving undercutting the rim with a router to get the horn edge under there. I haven't tried it but there's no reason that shouldn't work.

I had read enough of this thread, and yours on the Advent conversion, that I knew they wouldn't fit the NLA without undercutting. Mine are too nice to "modify" in that fashion, though :no:

I converted the Advent's first, as it was quick and easy. The intent is to find satisfaction with my 19's, if not build new cabinets and use a pair of suitable JBL woofers. However, I could be well pleased by the Advent setup for quite a while :yes:

They are 19's. I finished the waveguide mounting late last evening, so I just tried the 19 crossover for a quick listen. Needs some measurement and adjustment. The biggest disappointment right now is the bass, sounds a bit boomy and hollow by comparison.
