Here`s my first attempt. I55s with the tweeter and crossover disconnected. The improvement over the originals is remarkable. I thank whomever put together the Le14 crossover as they have done a fine job. ...<snip>....

hmmmmm, :scratch2: that looks familiar! (See Ewave #37...) I agree, the stock L55 is nothing to get excited about. I'm still mulling over whether to build new cabinets or plug all the holes in the front and mount the waveguide right next to the woofer. Trouble spots holding me back are in fitting the stock grill so that it looks good (I really like the 3-D look of the grill) and where to put in the port hole or holes. But so far mine sound great setup exactly the same way you have yours! :thmbsp:

Looks like I'm going to be doing another ewave.

My next project will be a high sensitivity pair. I have a pair of Altec Valencia utility cabs tha tare rough enough to consider modding. I'll be using the rectangular horn and the 210 driver. The initial choice is the Dayton Classic 12" woofer although that may change. I'll probably make a full replacement front baffle rather than adapting the horn and woofer openings to the different sized new components. I'll probably start with an active crossover and passive CD compensation on the horn until I work out the crossover points I want.
This will probably get under way next month.

I see that PE is out of stock on the Selenium D220Ti, with expectation of more by March 11.

What's the recommendation to go less econo? B&C DE250 + what waveguide?

EDIT: for the sake of upgrades without adaptors and to use what I have in drivers, I would prefer a 2/3 bolt. PE has a 12" x 6", 90 x 40 degree CD, H295, for $30, or H395, 15.6 x 7" for $35, or the H290 mentioned above for $35. Those seem comparable to the original Econo...

Yeah, I was reading back through the pages around 70 - 80 and caught most of that. At the time I first stumbled into ewave territory I had a mint pair of 'A' valencias tha tI didn't want to gut. These cabinets are basically free so I don't mind hacking them if necessary.

What I'm looking for from this pair is a true full range sound. Solid bottom octaves. This probably means that I'll have to throw away some voltage sensitivity and use a shelving filter to bring the lowest octaves 'up'.

Too bad these LE10s are so wrong for these cabs. They would fit side by side with the horn at the top of the cabinet but that would cause strange nulls in the horizontal realm. Still... I could use the bottom of the cab for a true woofer bin and make a 15" 3-way...

Oh hell... Must go reassemble Ampeg SVT and stop thinking about woofers.

LE10 and 15" in the cabinet. EWave right on top. Cross the LE10 over at 200hz to a slammin 15" woofer and get the best of both worlds.

I've used the H290 here, Wayne over on the PI site uses that horn in his similar 4PI speaker. The B&C is an excellent driver that I intend to someday have, but our little horn is only available in "screw on" format, so with the B&C you will need an adapter....

I just shot Kegger a note with details that have to be worked out. He seems to be the catalyst behind the nuttier schemes that get tried out around here. It's actually not that difficult. The hard part will be re-foaming the LE10s. I've done 4 in the past and they're a real chore to get right.

Gonna drop a few people a line about woofer selection, as I have no idea where to get a reasonably priced 15" for 3-way bass duty in a 5.5 cu ft cabinet.

If these turn out right maybe I should have the SMAC meet here this spring for an unveiling. It's a cinch I won't be using my Honda to haul a pair of 80 lb Valencias to your place like I did the Advent eWaves.

Oh okay I just did it. I ordered a pair of the jbl's @ $9.90 today. I thought about the number of projects where I could use them with the Seleniums... I have a pair of ugly sturdy boxes for 12" or 15" drivers, so why not. Or maybe now that I have a workshop I can make something pretty using them. I've got a pair of vintage 10" drivers with a cult following for how they perform in the right size box, so...

The E'Wave project encourages exploration of alternatives, but I believe it's generally advisable to have the standard rendering on hand as baseline for comparisons.... :thmbsp:

I've got B&C ME60 2" Constant Directivity Horns with JBL 2441, so I've had a chance to hear what CD can do... but I can't take the peer pressure -- I have to see what I can do on the cheap now! :yes: Come to think of it, I've got some open baffle drivers worth trying out with the econo HF.

It sounds like a great project. If you can find them, you might want to look at the JBL 136A. They work well in a 5.5 cu ft box and the FS is 16hz!!!

I am using B&C DE10 with ME10 horns and preferred these to the D210 Selenium that I've tried.

I looked at post #1 and see it was Feb 24 2008 - a year ago yesterday! Of course Zilch and others have been doing this for way more than a year, but this thread is one year old!

Hats off to Zilch and many others who shared their knowledge and showed off their creations and got the rest of us to go out and try this! :thmbsp:
