I need to have one LE14 reconed, I bought a pair on Ebay and one is a grey paper, I was not smart enough to understand this, it is soft and nowhere near the white coated one in rigidity .I think there was somebody in Michigan, but could not find it. I will be driving through Michigan on my way to Idaho from Ontario on Monday. So if there is someone I can drop it off. If I am all wet on the Michigan repair, which is recommended place?
I will be staying in Idaho Twin Falls for about a month or more, so any advice?

First, which of the two are you considering to be the recone candidate? Can you post photos here, front & back? Is the color difference your only problem? If so, I don't think the Aquaplas coated white cones are available any longer, so a replacement will be likely to be gray as well.

That's a really sharp logo. How did you make it?
I re-did the grilles with different fabric. I bought a super stretchy knit made for swim and dance outfits. It's attached with double sided foam tape. It's quite transparent but everything behind it is black so it works fine.

Recone kits for LE14As are available from time to time; the problem is they come from JBL Consumer, not JBL Pro, and are nearly as expensive as buying new LE14H-3s. We're talking over $200 here, and you can certainly buy "correct" used LE14As for less.
Your grey one may have been reconed with a factory LE14H-1 kit with Aquaplas on the rear, but that should be just as stiff as the white one, and the voice coil is not the same, which I have documented over on LHF. If the cone and frame are green, it could be the LE14A variant used in the Heathkit version of S99.

I'd also be talking to the eBay seller about an appropriate refund if they did not disclose this issue in their listing.

The grey one is the one I was thinking of. The cone flexes if you push down
or up from any point on the cone the surrounds needs replacing on both but the white has no discernable flex: it moves up and down as a unit. The white cone is very rigid. The restoring force on both seems the same i guess the spider etc is fine I doubt they would sound the same, I can see cone breakup on the gray. I have no idea if the gray is JBL replacement
The alternative would be to get another single white one on Ebay

Here's some pics of my second pair of ewaves. The cabs I found at a thrift
store for 8.00. The were old Cerwin Vega HED ? They came with a textured
finish so I recoated them with textured satin black from spray cans. The
woofers are Dayton 10" classics with the standard ewave crossovers
and 220's.I mounted some pole mounts on the bottom so I can use
them for light duty basement DJ gigs or partys. Both will fit in my car's trunk.
Currently in my brothers system,he's trying to right me a check:sigh:

With the L-pads at about 11:00, those little daytons more than hold up their
end of the bargain and lean more towards being bass heavy believe it or
not.They sure dont need a subwoofer hooked to his Marantz 2220b. Some
albums, I would turn the bass knob down a notch same as I do on my 1st
pair of hpm 100/ewaves at home and so they sound very much the same.
We gave them a heck of a six hour workout friday night starting out with
60's and early 70's rock and finally cranking the volume up to 2:00 spinning
some Black Sabbath,AC/DC and Van Halen to just to see if they would hold
up. They did a wonderful job with no distortion of any kind."No wonder he
wants to keep them"
I moved the port to the front per Zilch's recommendation and used a black
long sweeping 3" pvc elbow about 10" long I found at Lowes. I dont have any
insulation in them yet, and that may tighten up the bass but I tried adding
some to my hpm's and it made the vocals sound raspy. I will play around with
that if I ever get them back. Thanks again guys, great speakers :thmbsp:

What's the best way to adjust the L-Pad for optimum balance between highs and mids? I'm messing around with this right now. I'm using REW to graph each step of the way. But any tips would be appreciated.
I got the L-Pad adjusted for the flattest response from about 2k to 10k, but then I get a bad dropoff after 10k. So I'm bumping up the highs to get that extra bit back after 10k and it's now giving me a bit of a peak between 5k & 8k. Nothing that EQ can't take care of. But like I said... any tips would be appreciated!

It's been awhile since I've taken a look around here, there are some very nice looking Ewaves being put together! I really like those black ones Hatchetjack, nice job.
