From Wiki: Thiele/Small" commonly refers to a set of electromechanical parameters that define the specified low frequency performance of a loudspeaker driver. These parameters are published in specification sheets by driver manufacturers so that designers have a guide in selecting off-the-shelf drivers for loudspeaker designs. Many of the parameters are strictly defined only at the resonant frequency, but they are generally applicable in the frequency range where the diaphragm motion is intended to be purely pistonic, i.e. without cone breakup.

Thanks for the woofer info. The foam is still very good on mine as these were replacements I bought about 6 or 7 years ago. But I can't remember where I purchased them:sigh:

And they do play loud with plenty of bass, My Adcom GFA-1A driving the hell out of them :music:

You are probably right, Zilch, but I wonder how many E'Waves are based on Advents? Those are so easy to do.

I am really surprised that more people havent used the JBL 2235H for econowave. It was the original driver for the E'wave mothership, the JBL 4430 monitor. I consider it to be at the top of the E'wave heap.:thmbsp:

Thank You Mark, I was Very careful with the jig saw and used a finer blade making the waveguide opening on the covers. There is not much material left on each side, but I don't take my covers off that much anyway (although now I may to show off :D). That is another reason I used Velcro at the top instead of each side (like the original).
 
A big thanks to all the helpful and wonderful AK'ers that have been helping me learn speakerology -- I'm learning a bunch and having fun!

AND -- a big Congrats to all of you that have done speaker surgery and created your Econo-Waveguide speakers. Seeing your pics and posts sure has been informative and inspirational.

I find I'm now looking at speakers thinking "hmm, wonder how that speaker would do as an EconoWave ...?"

After I do my current EconoWaving of these Marantz speakers, I'm thinking of doing a pair of Realistic Optimus 5b.

I don't think this is curable, is it??

I feel the same way. I certainly don't need any more speakers, but I had so much fun with my E-Waves that I want to do more. The path to success (learning, trial and error, mistakes) was certainly the best part of it. Of course, the "end state" isn't too bad either!

For sure a great performer, but the scarcity makes the price of admission hardly qualify as econo? I have multiple pairs of LE14A's that I have paid less than $75 for including shipping. They needed to be refoamed (about $15 a pair materials plus about 4 hours of my labor) and they are no 2235 but they are easily 1/4 to 1/3 the cost and still solid performers in their own right.:scratch2:

Several JBL frames will take the C8R2235 kit to become 2235H or 2234H.
2225s are an exact match to the 2235 frame, while 2205 will sound the same with it's Alnico frame. E-130/140 frames will also work, but the stronger magnet will boost the mids a bit, so this has been called a Frankenspeaker...

At one time there were also aftermarket kits on that auction site, but, while the cone and coil were top notch, the spider was too stiff and it did not come with a mass ring, so Fs would never match. That's what my current pair are, 2205 frames with AM kits. Sound almost as good as my real one after I added enough mass to get the Fs where I wanted. (It would only go as low as a real 2235H without the mass ring, so technically it sounds like an inefficient 2234.) Not quite the same as my real one, nor do the 2205 frames allow the power handling of the SFG frames.

For my next pair I have 2225's and the real JBL kits in a closet, just waiting till I finish the cabinets. I'll probably have to re-foam them before I get around to using them...

Ideas for new(to me) woofers to try.

Hello everyone. I had econowaved Marantzes, E-waver 16 or 17 I believe. I went from those to NLA's then on to my DLK II's. I have a smaller room. About 8 ft by 15ft with a 7 ft ceiling. I'm thinking that I might be better served with smaller woofers to pair to the Econowaves. Does anyone have any suggestions? New or used woofers. I can build boxes too. Or whole speakers that I should keep an eye out for.

I think that the Marantz's and the DLK's might just be too big for the room.

Great thing about Econowave is the ability to experiment.:thmbsp:
