I run JBL 2225 woofers and 2441 CDs. Those were not developed for the home market. I'll put them up against any high end home drivers.

IMO, yes, without reservation, absolutely. Different league. Unfortunately, none of that really tells you how strongly I actually feel.

The M will be limited in bass extension compared to the LE14s but it's intent is as a midrange. The X, S, and H variants all have significantly more xmax with a bit less efficiency than the M. They all dig well down into the 20s. Their lack of compression, low inductance, low distortion, and off axis response are pretty well unparalled in the home or proaudio domain. (not that there isn't a better driver here or there at one of the listed qualities). I'll put it this way, if I had my choice between a pair of LE14H-3s at 200.00 / pair and Lambdas with the Apollo motors at 800.00 / pair, saving up the money (based on my experience) would be a no brainer.
 
Interesting thoughts Dave.. .but I can't say because I haven't heard the LE14H.. .

I looked at my drivers again where they are hand lettered, and I'm really starting to wonder if I have the TD15H... They look like an H to me, and not an M.. and from what I am hearing bass wise, I can't imagine they are are the M.. these things dig deep and hard.. Looks more like an H than an M to me.. If it is an M they printed, it's the sloppiest M I've ever seen.

I will repeat what I've said before though.. if I ever build another speaker, I won't hesitate to buy nothing but Lambda's again, because I'v enever heard anything else like them, and I have heard a LOT of JBL speakers..

The other 3 models have rolled surrounds, not accordian.

With the tuning we suggested (30hz, iirc) and the semi-corner loading, you may be getting solid bass down to that. 30hz is deep bass by anyone's standards, even mine, and I'm a bass fiend. I want extension in the mid teens, min.
 
OK.. DAMN.. if these are the M.. than I'd hate to think what a S or H would do to a house.. or even the speaker box..

I believe I tuned them to 35hz to prevent as much over excursion at higher wattage..
 
The Pyle wave guides I purchased from Parts Express are made in China, are the JBL waveguides as well?
Everytime I have talked to JBL and things were backordered they always say they will contact the factory in Mexico to see when more will arrive so I would think they are made in mexico, that was for both the 338800-001 and the 338650-001 also

JBL 2226 and QSC waveguide?

You take a screen shot of it, convert that to jpeg in Paint or Photoshop or other photo editor, crop, resize, and upload the image....

Much faster if you use the freeware Gadwin Screen Shot. You get to draw what you want to save, resize and configure it to save to clipboard or save in .jpg. It's extremely useful and time-saving.

I have a friend who I think would appreciate trying an EconoWave with JBL 2226 and QSC waveguide with B&C DE250. I have most of the parts, and a pair of cabs that might work. Has anyone used this particular combination? I like the 2226 midbass, and it goes high enough...

Itried that combo with 2225H in 5 cuft ( JBL 4507 ) tuned to 40 hz. Very exciting to listen to, not quite the low digs of the 2235H but amazing mid range snap. I would imagine the 2226H to be very similar, with possibly a little more LF extension.

regarding the Geddes x-over

a recent Geddes post over on diyAudio:

"All CD waveguides with compression drivers need at least two types of corrections due to the nature of the design.

1) there is a -6 dB / oct. fall because of CD - any system that does not exhibit this cannot possibly be CD,

2) there is a resonance of the compression driver - the diaphragm resonance - and this will always cause a peak in the power response even if one is not evident on axis. These two features are 60% of my crossovers. There is a smaller resonance in the 12" and under waveguides due to the mouth reflection and an LRC helps to pull the power response of this down making for lower coloration.

That's all that is usually done in my crossovers.

Some woofers do have breakups and these can be a problem, but I never operate a woofer in its breakup region, I just use a steeper crossover to filter out the resonances.

Nothing magic here, just good design."
 
16 ohm or 8 ohm

using a 16 ohm woofer, would it be a better match to get the 16 ohm seleniums or the 8 ohm version or does it not matter?
 
The highpass is optimized for 8-Ohm D220Ti.

The lowpass for a 16-Ohm woofer is shown in the parts list.... :yes:

I wonder where the diaphragm resonance is on the DE250? If there's any "resonance" it will be apparent in the impedance as a glitch.

Looking at the naked response plot, there's no apparent resonance issues that call for any kind of LCR trap. And Zilch's off axis plots don't show any issues either, much less on axis.

What's my .zma on the QSC waveguide look like?

I suspect with the cascaded L-pads in our the final circuit, any such anomaly is pretty well squelched by the time the highpass filter sees it. Even with just one, I'm not seeing anything untoward in the attenuation measurements when the adjustable is at max.
