Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

Has anyone used the new Dayton Polyimide compression driver yet? I think it looks a lot like the B&C DE250, even the replacement Diaphragm looks like it too.

I'm thinking of building the Econowave deluxe using B&C DE250, Eminence Kappalite 3012LF and QSC PL-000446GP.
I have found all the part i need in Europe except the waveguide and if i order it from PE it will be ~300$ for two to me in Sweden, so i wonder if the B&C ME 45 waveguide could be a suitable replacement? It's only 167$ for two from Thomann.

Or if anyone got another waveguide to recommend thats available in Europe and ships to Sweden that could work?

I'll be ordering crossover parts from http://www.europe-audio.com and drivers from http://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html

Shipping to Sweden shouldn't be $230.. more like $50-60 by mail. If PE won't mail them to you, maybe you know someone in the US that could do it for you? Or, just ask Wayne if he will ship his H290C by USPS as suggested above. A bit more money, but a bit nicer waveguide too, and the total should still be <$175 or so, I think.

An exponential horn like that ME45 defeats the purpose of the project, btw.
 
Slim; Consider buying the Seos 12 direct from Auto-Tech ( located in Poland ).

Their Seos-12 is a well regarded wave-guide .

Front dimension is a little smaller, but its actually deeper than the QSC unit. The crossover isnt designed for this wave guide, but not for the JBL2344 either, which I used with great success. Zilch would pipe up here normally, curve junkie that he was, and demonstrate the difference, which he no doubt measured many times here and over on LH forums.

There are many. When I asked Zilch this back in the beginning of this giant thread, (I was E'wave #4) he quickly advised JBL 2235H. There are, many choices. The AE drivers look awfully good, and response so nice it is likely a dream to work with. There is a cost to this choice, and the 2235H as well. Look also at Gordon's work with JBL baskets and aftermarket recones. Not just any recones, Gordon knows his stuff and they are less $$$ than the JBL recones. Back then, I think the JBL service center I went to charged about 400.00 to recone two 2225H to 2235H. They have the same motor.

Mine are in JBL 4705 boxes, 5 cu ft.

Must be constant directivity, patterns look spot on. I'm sure Zilch would love to try this one! Extremely smooth.

Just a couple of parts to try the difference is what Zilch always said. I dont know, but I doubt those woof are over 95 dB. You could check on the LH forum or JBL used to have info on vintage drivers.

Zilch would be smiling at your upside down boxes and high end wired through the port! How many pics he posted with various speakers in this configuration I can not say!

Heaven help finding it in this giant thread, but I remember Zilch once commenting on how dimishing Directivity as the woofer moves up in frequency actually helped in some ways? Always a compromise some where...it usually came up when someone ragged the 4430 monitor...the mothership of E'wave.

Found some things I can use locally. A 1.9 cf unfinished enclosures from JBL 4428 studio monitors. Depending on the horn I would put it outside or in the enclosure. I will need to make a new front baffle to fit the horn properly.

I also purchased some old speakers that contained a JBL 2204H 12 inch woofer and a JBL 2344A horn without the compression driver.

Is the 2344A horn any good?

There is a local guy selling a B&C ME15 90x60 exponential horn with DE400Tn drivers. How does the DE400TN compare to the DE250?

I could fit the small JBL clone from parts express easily within the enclusore. The QSC would need to go outside. From what I have read, the QSC is superior.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

As to the 2344 horns, Hell yes. I have a pair and they worked great without a lot of tweeking, just plugged and played them with the QSC.
I have the parts to replicate the 4430 crossover, (thanks zilch) he made a parts list over on LH forum, but havent got around to it. I have the same woof, same cu ft, same LF crossover and zobel, but currently use the "Deluxe" HF crossover. Really want to try the 4430 HF with these B&C DE 250 on the 2344.....maybe this winter.

They are Barzilay cabinets with a CTS woofer from some old cornwalls - reconed by GordonW. I call them magic woofers by GordonW.
It has the standard high efficency crossover, jbl horns, and the selenium d220ti compession drivers.

I still need to finish up the grills, which will have the cloth from Crites to match the klipsch fabric, and the stands which are period correct solid walnut to mach the speaekrs.
I think they look great nad sound great too.

I just wish Zilch was still here so I could thank him again for this.

HMMMMM those JBL horns and 220 compression drivers look familiar! Think you talked me out of those at Twangfest! any headway on the SET 45 amp project?

Back the guy in Sweden: The SEOS 15 is the one that actually gives almost the same response as the QSC waveguide (slightly better in the time domain, nearly identical FR)) when the DE250 is being used, or at least I think I'm remembering that right. Those are fairly expensive in fiberglass, though.
 
Hmmmmmmmmm. If you go to the Speaker forum, look at the ewave title, ( NOW A STICKY)look to the right where it shows how many responses there are, and click on that number it lists in order who has the most posts in this giant thread. Zilch is still number one. Your's truly is still number 2!, even though I havent posted regularly here in the longest. (sort of made up for that today) Skywave is number 3. Boy, I must have been a big mouth then. Still am.
