Woofers that are appropriate for horns are often appropriate for ported cabinets, as well.

Do you want to try some 15s I have around to see if they present an improvement in your cabinets?

Zilch, the extra cabinets would have been for something like a EV SP8B or some other wide range, efficient midrange.

Just picked up a handy little meter, been wanting to get one of those LC meters from the
bay for a while now, quite handy in checking those unmarked coils laying around here now.

Thing seems pretty accurate, tested a pair of .6hm coils where one reads .588 and another
reads .598, tested a bunch of caps and the 10% ones of non big name manufactures were
definatly all over the place inside that 10% while the 5% an the big name manufacturer 10%
ones were quite close to each other and the value they are marked as.

Really wanted it for the inductance part, I have a cap meter but having 2 cap meters aint bad. :)

It's just one of those inexpensive 3.5" LCD $25.00 jobbies, does the job for xover parts nicely.
 
For those that attempt to call the 18sound distributor mentioned, be warned that it's hit or miss whether they will want to deal with you. They will likely direct you to Loudspeakers Plus, who has significantly higher prices than the distributor (obviously)

I got nowhere with Loudspeakers Plus in three tries; they don't stock the newer XT125 driver, and didn't seem interested in my puny order for two.

If there were enough interest, an AK "Vendor" might consider stocking 18-Sound or doing a group buy.

Several members here are already using their larger elliptical waveguides.... :yes:
 
Loudspeakers Plus also has never come through for me, returned a call or an email. I know someone who tried to order 100 18sound coaxes for a project and eventually dropped the idea and used another source of components because they also couldn't get direct pricing from the distributor and didn't seem to have much luck with their 2 US retailers.
 
OK, got the drivers and crossover parts today from PE.....waiting on the JBL horn.

Dang, I'd be happy if I just had the horn and driver to use with the electronic crossover...Now planning crossover layout.....

Out of the gate it's far from perfect, but how could it be with so many variables? I hear what Kegger was hearing - sort of a strain at Higher SPLs. Thanks to Geddes, it looks like the foam might be a big step in the right direction. I cut a couple quick little plugs of generic open cell foam (not the right stuff) and heard huge improvement, I can only imagine that filling the whole waveguide with something fully reticulated will basically get me near where I want to be:music:

Also, I noticed the soundstage wasn't really coming together. Then I remembered a statement (Geddes methinks) that this type of system is gonna be best with a wiked strong toe-in... like 45deg and crossing in front of the listener. Ya know, it looks wrong but it worked for me, it came together much better!

Plenty of tweaking (and subs to build) yet but so far it's a big :thmbsp:
 
I believe it was Zilch that hit it home with me about the toe in to be just in front of the
listening position, which is the way I have it as well, basically 3-4 feet out in front of my
sitting position is where the 2 speakers interesect for good imaging and sound right so far.
 
Hi Z, I am using the D210T and here the same strain. Do you think it would be different with the D220T?
 
I think the one thing (outside of the behavior of the impedance) about the D220Ti vs D210Ti is that most have found the D220Ti subjectively smoother sounding and perhaps measurably smoother to some degree.
 
I am teaching at the moment (students are working in groups so I can play on the forum) and had a meeting then party right after class, but that was cancled so I am going to go home after class and modding my Imperials and doing the E-Wave thing with them today. I'll let you all know the results. Anyone local in S.E. Michigan is welcome to come over and help:D:D:D:D:D

I think you all are on to something with the 210 vs 220 comparison. Zilch pointed out in several earlier posts in this thread that the 220 was somewhat smoother. I have the 220 and one thing everyone comments on is the lack of any sort of high freq weirdness or strain. Very clear infact would be a good description of what I'm hearing. Also recall in some earlier posts that a few of these drivers had some unit to unit inconsistencies, which could usually be resolved by repositioning the diaphragm a bit. As to the imaging, for any given room there is always a sweet spot where mine are best, but if it is suffering as much as decribed above, I would check all my wiring, double check it making sure everything is correctly phased and so forth. I have found some benefit occaisionally by experimenting with reverseing the phase on both speakers at the binding posts and comparing. Sometimes subtle, sometimes not. I have excellent imaging set almost anywhere within reason. That said the depth and so forth improves somewhat when the position is fully tweaked.

On my 210Ts, it sounds horid in phase. Reversing the phase brings it right in line. I am getting a great center image but not a very wide or deep image. The sound is on the plane of the speakers. I have not tried crossing them in front of my listening spot yet.
 
Dennis I'm going to make some Foam inserts for AndyMan and i'll make some for you as well.

After doing the foam "plugs" on mine I find them just fine in the smoothness catagory and it
makes them perform/hold together better at higher volumes, I doubt at this point I'll go any
further with foam then the small plugs I'm currently using in the throat of the horn.
