+1It seems obvious to me, but apparently not to everyone, that how we perceive sound is not directly related to how it measures. So until we have a better grasp of how the brain processes sound (and multiple sounds from multiple locations at once), we can't expect measurements to match experience.
And having recently read an article about people with excessive sensitivity to any noise - not just loud noise, that's a different diagnosis - I'm even more aware of how different people hear differently. Maybe Danny can actually hear the effect of a steel screw - I don't think I can (or maybe I don't care enough to worry about it). But I do know that I've never liked loud noises and I'm very aware that I often get ringing or resonances in my ears even with unamplified human voices - this is based on listening to the choir at church. So my concerns are often not that of other audiophiles - huge dynamics and realistic volumes aren't attractive to me.

Differences in milli/micro ohms are irrelevant.A different thought - I remember Julien Vereker of Naim tossing in the towel about gold plating on connectors. He said that rhodium plating was better sounding and maybe more durable - the coating process apparently requires multiple steps of plating and the result wasn't as transparent as the average person might imagine - but the market is driven by consumers, well informed or not, and sticking with rhodium was costing too many sales.
Just a correction, Gold is more inert than Rhodium. Gold resists corrosion and chemical attack better than any other element. Rhodium will react with the halogens especially fluorine at ambient conditions as well as oxygen at elevated temperatures. Rhodium is much harder than gold and will hold up better than gold in harsh environments or where connectors are plugged and unplugged extensively.If corrosion resistance is the goal, rhodium beats gold.

It would sound great at first -probably better than anything else currently available, but would tarnish pretty bad if any of the metal was exposed to air and would diminish over time I'm thinking, requiring constant cleaning and maintenance. What about silver binding posts plated in gold, maybe something similar to gr-research's low mass tube connectors but using silver instead of copper as the base metal, do they even exist? It is definitely a thin layer of rhodium. Pure rhodium is around $8K/ounce.This is a delayed response to Mr Boochie's post.
I do not know. But I assume it's a plating, not solid rhodium, so resistance is likely to be less important than resistance to corrosion and physical durability.

How about good old stainless steel? Although it's prolly not good enough for true high-end stuff.Rhodium is hard and shiny. Contacts plated with it last longer (through more contact cycles) than gold plated ones. "Shiny" sells good even if it's not gold or silver.
