Calling All Yamahas. Time to Post Your Pics

I was thinking of bidding on it, as a pre...

I'm using an old Advent 300 as a pre right now..I hope the low level is the amp section, not the pre..most likely caps...

Anyone picked up on the uber-rare C-1 over on that auction site?

You can have the MX-/CX-10000 set for yourself for only $9K over on Audiogon. Did these retail for $20K when new as the seller states?

we sold cx 1000 for 15000 dm and the mx 1000 for also 15000 dm in 1990 there was no discount given that would be more then 20 k$
we only had one pair from yamaha sold out

Either you are missing a 0 in the numbers or you guys were super salesmen :)

B-2 the MX-10000 was MSRP 7500 USD, the CX some less. But remember the sales tax, Germany had about 13% sales tax and in general Hi-Fi gear was more expensive in Europe before tax.

of couse 10000 series my fault sale tax was 16 % in germany back then

I just looked it up, as mr. junk states the CX/MX-10000 sold for 15.000DM in Germany. This translates into somthing like $20-23.000 for bough units (incl. tax), the MSRP in the US was $15.000 + sales tax.
This gives a good idear about price difference US vs. EU back in the dayes.

CDX-920 Pictures

The line up of 1989 was: CDX-420, 520, 820, 920, 1120, 2000, 2020 and the 5000.

It was actually the smallest in the series since the 920 is related to the 1120 and 2020. Where the smaller models (820 and down) has different design and DAC.
.

Spec wise they may be close but build quality can't even compare. I was really hoping for more from this model. I am not sure what the MSRP was so maybe it is fitting for the price range. Internals remind me more of the 1030 but the transport on the 1030 is superior IMO. It doesn't matter how I look at it my ears are still rather content

The Great B-2 vs MX-2000 Shoot-out

Well.....its over. The once and future king remains. The B-2. Simply sounds more musical. Do wish it were the looker that the MX-2000 is, though. Anyone want a 99+ MX-2000? It sure is purty. And, at 61+ pounds, it actually out-weighs the 57+ pound B-2. Just not quite up to the B-2 in sonics. Oh, those VFETs. They simply have the best sound. Can't beat 'em. Maybe I'll just remove the bulbs from the B-2 meters and tell people it is the MX-2000 playing. :D While a very nice sound, the MX-2000 is like everything else I've tried in the past few years. Simply not up to B-2 standards for sound. Guess it is time to find a B-2x. Think it is one of the last Yamaha amps I've not listened to against the B-2. And, a B-1 & MX-D1, of course.

Lucky for you. Now you won't have to change your AK handle to Yamaha MX-2000..... that just doesn't have the same ring to it :D

Mark - has your B-2 come back from EW? Wondering if you've done any listening to it as your main amp if it has? Would be interested in your thoughts if you have.

Wow! He prices his gear like Allegro out in LA. That's very close to $2K, before shipping. Think I'll hang in there for a 120VAC model for about 1/4 that.

Yeah, I'm not jumping on it either, but it is an extremely nice B-2x. The Euro version of the B-2x was more expensive than the B-1.
