I believe AK member, qboneus, has a B-2101, basically the same model that came before the 2102 in the mid 1980's, also 200W per channel. I have a C-2102 preamp, which is the matching pre for the 2102 amp.

I think its an excellent amp, but if youre interested to buy one, its always a good idea to get as much Info as possible from the seller about its background history, and to verify from him that everything works ok with the amp.

Yes,
I do have a B2101 and I really enjoy it.
It runs bi-amped with my sansui au-11,000 to run my vandersteen 2c's I use the 2101 to run the L.F. of the vandy's.
Very powerful, only gripe I have is I don't like the attenuator pots on the front panel--I plan on replacing them with something better this summer hopefully.

in short- I like it just as well as I like my au-11K
A lot!

Wow!!! Your amp is a beauty!!! What is it's sonic signature or better yet what is it's greatest asset to your listening experience? Also if you don't mind me asking how much did it cost you?

I have a chance to buy a B-2102 in fully operational condition but because the great sansui peices are at least 10-15 yrs old I am wondering how much I should pay to get a decent deal.

Any comments?

I don't have the B-2102 nor the B-2101, but the B-2102 I suspect to have totally different innards, with a design and sound quality more comparable to my AUX1111 Mos V integrated.

What does your amp sound like?

Is it warm? What is the low frequency extension like? What speakers are you using?

Thanks for the post
Adam

Well the AUX1111 takes the recorded musicout of the disk and places it in a natural environement. The sound has full body and warmth like natural sound.
If you're used to low-budget equipment, the step would be quite big, so best to keep in mind an amplifier of this grade demands a set of equally good speakers and has to be matched with a quality source to do it justice.

If music is 1 of the most important things to you, and are ready to invest in good speakers aswell (if you haven't yet), then I'd say go for it!!!

The AUX1111 is rated 110 WPC into 8 ohms.
I don't know what the technology behind it is, as literature for it seems non-existant.
Sometimes I feel like the soly person in the planet in possession of this particular Sansui!

I'm not familiar with tube amplifiers, but If you like their sound, the later solid state Sansuis are complimented to closely their sound charachteristic, to the point to sound identical, in the case of the AU-ALPHA907MR .

I'd suggest you, if you didn't already, to carefully read the following site:

www.sansui.us

A passionate Japanese author, committed to pinpoint the rest of the world the way Sansui kept their pride up high producing the best equipment possible at the most struggling times causing tremendous loss but how they still succeeded in the quest for their ultimate amplifier. Beautifull!

Isao's website's power amplifiers section actually lists the B-2102 as a 100 WPC amplifier.
I can't tell for sure what it is as I'm not familiar with the particular model, only with the AUX1111 :D

I'm in touch w/ Isao on a regular basis, so if its a typo, I can let him know. The B-2102 is 200W (which is quite reasonable for a power amplifier)

Taken from Isao's website

B-2102 MOS Vintage (1988)

Basically, this power amplifier is the power amp section of AU-X1111 MOS Vintage. 150W+150W into 6 Ohms, 100W+100W into 8 Ohms, THD 0.008%, FR DC-300KHz, S/N 110dB, 450x176x477mm, 35.0Kg

You're right!! I had no idea there were different verrsions though!

Power meters are centered, looking good!!

B/F, it's interesting to see the vintage version providing only half the power. Do you have an idea what the philosophy was behind this? The philosophy behind doing the Vintage Series in general?

....and the most confusing, is the AU-X111 and AU-X111 Mos Vintage, huge difference! One is the budget model and the other the elite model.

Just out of curiosity

The european 2101 sold for :EUR 287,00.
I am showing my ignorance here but how much in american is this?
Thanks ,
Tal
