Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

This thread is really pissing me off:D
What luck someone who recognised it's true value rescued it.
All I got to show is the stupid $15 Yamaha M-65 and the $0.50 vintage Rolex Speed King.

Hi Guys...well, I spent a couple days cleaning up the TD-124 with the SME 3012 arm, it came up nice,...all lubed up and running again... i stripped the plinth back to the bare wood, looks a lot nicer now than that dull chipped black paint, i "0000" steelwooled the plinth with wax, i do need to buy some parts for it though, the audio wiring is messed up and one of the audio wiring sheild cover bolts are broken, other one bent, but apart from that, im very happy with the finish!

I found a Marantz receiver with a Garrard changer on top at a DAV. I dont know what model it was. It had a magnetic cartridge in a slide off headshell. It was priced at 30.00 but the guy said the next day was half off day so I waited. Well I went back that morning and it was already gone. I guess it doesnt pay to try to save money sometimes. Its not like I needed it.

Nice clean cuts, at least. Looks factory. Can you run a 16" transcription disc on there with the 3012 arm?

I found a 5.0 set of Klipsch Promedia speakers yesterday at the DAV for $10. A guy was looking at them before me, and decided that they must not be any good because he didn't recognize the name. I've only hooked up the center channel so far, but it already sounds better than the Sony HTIAB speakers in my HT setup. Now to find a nice little Klipsch sub...

Hi Sam...i dont know...i dont have one or have ever owned a disc like that

If there are no obstructions 8" from the spindle, a 16" disc should run on it. Outside of some possible geometry advantages, I think that would be the main reason to hang such a long arm on there.
