Console Opinions

Consoles 'Я' Us
Worth picking up (free)? As a bonus, I suspect I could get them to toss in the penny taped to the Maggie's tone arm.

FREE? YES it should have 8802 in it (6v6 pp 6eu7pre and 6ca4rec) i have the same one

the answer is yes without a hesitation! it will count as a big score these days.

wait, do i see two separate turntables?

I certainly would - and a free penny too! Nice find. Is that one stereo and one mono?

Free? I say go for it. At least one is stereo. Is not my style for a console, but I bet it would make a nice stand alone amp. Plus you have the logos from the cabinet!
John

yes, get them. Mono units are fun, especially in a room with a poor layout that doesnt lend itself to stereo usage.

Well, if nothing else, ya never know what sort of tubey goodness you might find in these old girls! :thmbsp:

The style of the Maggie is not really to my tastes and it appears to be a phono-only unit. If the amp is salvageable, that's likely all I'll keep. I'll reserve final judgment until I actually see it. Ya never know!

The Moto mono unit is a bit more interesting. Depending upon its condition, I would be leaning towards refurbing it and keeping it whole.

We shall see!

That's a Voice of Music record changer..common for Motorolas' to use them. And of course a Collaro in the Maggie!

I pick them up Monday afternoon. I'll be sure and post up pics when I get them home and opened up! Here's hoping for some Mullards in that Maggie!!!

i doubt you'll find mullards, likely some US made tubes, but as i have mentioned here before, those maggie tube amps are really something. i'd get as many as i can get my hands on. specially the fact that you can mod it in any way you want is awsome.

That mono is particularly cute! Try to keep it together!
fairchild:

Definitely! That mono Moto unit is easily the most interesting and the one I really want to keep intact. Of course, sourcing a stylus for that TT should be interesting. I'll reserve judgement on the Maggie until I see it, but I'm leaning towards using it for my first stand-alone console amp project. And yes, I'll definitely be needing help and guidance with that. You listening Marcus? ;)

I believe your motorola uses a Sonotone 2T cartridge/stylus,
very easy to find..
I restored a Moto just like yours about ten years ago and
I installed a Stanton 500 cartridge along with a small preamp.
This greatly improved the sound and allowed stereo records to be played monaurally.

OOOooooo. . . .

very nice : )

the motorola will have a P/P 6V6 integrated amp, with some BEEFY transformers . . these are REALLY nice amps . . .

that Maggie could have the 88- series amp (PP 6V6) or one of the SE 6BQ5 amps :scratch2:

can't beat free !

Oh please give me any more detail on this that you can. I'd really like to keep the Moto together and make it usable.
