Wharefdale W70 First Edition (I think)

I lent these to my son and now they are back, with cat scratches on the grill. I have a few questions about these. I plan to use a Harmon Kardon 930 Refurbished completely with them, like when it was purchased with the speakers back in the day by my great uncle. 1) How can I remove the front...

    Wharfdale W70s Crossover Question

I am restoring a set of Wharfedale W70D Hong Kongs and was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is the original crossover or if it has been replaced. The original owner took out the 8 inch low mid and covered it in plywood. I have a Wharfedale replacement driver to install as well as stolen...

Calling All Wharfedale w70 Owners - Need Help , New Wharfedale kid on the Block

    - Hi Everyone , I am pretty new to the forum, having just posted a few times, but am learning a lot from everyone. ---- I have recently had a epiphany or a realization that I must turn away from the dark side! - ( or maybe it's turn to the dark side, I'm not sure which it is yet ) - and begin...

    Wharfedale W60E replacement woofers

Hi All, Just picked up a set of these for $40 knowing the woofers were "blown". Turns out they arent, but have some odd replacements. One is a weird covered GE woofer hacked in (thankfully without cutting the cab) and the other looks like another model Wharf full range. Anyway, both have to go...

DIY Open baffle conversion of W70 Wharfedales?

I've posted the below in the British Audio section, so apologies for those that have seen this twice... I've got a Wharfedale 60D Mark II pair that are acoustic suspension and I've been very happy with them. Good crisp response and enough bass and clean highs. I also have a pair of very early...

    Wharfedale W70 open baffle conversion

I've got a Wharfedale 60D Mark II pair that are acoustic suspension and I've been very happy with them. Good crisp response and enough bass and clean highs. I also have a pair of very early all alnico W70s that are ported. While these sound pretty good, with complex music having multiple bass...

Wharfedale W60 score! Now what? (vc rub/re-cap)

Good Morning friends- I wanted to share my good fortune at obtaining these lovely early dome cone tweetered (not the purple pancake) Wharfedale W60's. (Actually a long time ago, but finally getting around to playing with them. Also, I have questions. Hooked them up, and the sound is "meh,"...

Advice, tips or tricks for fixing speaker corners and veneer replacement - early 60s cabinets

Hi All, I've recently started to tackle the cosmetics of some gear that I've electronically restored. Built a cabinet and plinth for my Fisher 500B and Dual 1229Q recently and now the Wharfedale W70s are the odd man out visually. I've redone the PIOs some time back and all the drivers work...

Are you guys running your Wharfedale W70s at 4 ohms or 8 ohms?

Running a pair of w70s (original alnicos, bic) from a fisher 500b at 8 ohms currently. Can these be run at 4 ohms or will this damage my speakers or receiver? If they can be run at 4 ohms, any sonic benefits? Any help appreciated.

How'd I do? Just picked up a pair of Wharfdale W70s for $50.

So I ran across these in the local classifieds, for $50, and thought, how could I lose. I showed up and it was a college kid selling them out of his dorm room. He was running them on a crappy Sanyo receiver/turntable combo unit, so listening to them was less than optimal, but they seemed to be...

Wharfedale/Tannoy DYI - Talk me in or out of it!

Hi guys! I've enjoyed my audio journey thus far, but am certainly in need of a change of speakers. When me and a good friend started the journey, our first real speakers were a set of Klipsch Tangent T200's for myself (I heavily improved the cabs, dampened the horn and upgraded the crossovers)...

Can't get back panel back on Wharfedale w70 speaker

Hey all, Just finished recapping a pair over early Wharfedale W70s and replacng the 4uf PIO caps with KGBs. However, I can't get one of the back panels back into the cabinet. 6 months or so ago, I'd taken a break from my vintage gear for a while, but now getting back into it. When I took...

    Wharfedale W90s - How I Replaced My L-Pads

Good Day AKers, I have a very early pair of Wharfedale W90s from 1962. These have all AlNiCo drivers and dual ports. They also have 53 year old electronics! The W90s (and other "W" series Wharfedales) have attenuation dials on the rear of the speakers. In most cases (but I don't believe in...
