“Best” oil for my car threads.

I have 3 different oils between my four. Truck gets 5w30, the gas cars get 10w30 and the same filter, the diesel runs 15w40 diesel oil. The truck and the diesel have different filters too of course.

not married and no kids. I have needy vehicles, who has time for anything else?

Apparently, I am wrong. SPOT was a theoretical animal he used.

Now, I am really hard pressed to think of which guy had STORM as his dog. The dog would sit on the hood of the cars. Anyone remember?

Cal did that in good humor to mock Lambert. Cal was a real character. Had a Dodge dealership in Downey if I remember right. Story is he hired on as a lot guy keeping dust off the cars and such, lowest job at the dealership. In two years, or so, he owned the dealer ship. From there he grew, Fords, and the rest is history. I have a friend who knew Cal personally, both owned Ford dealerships, socialized at Ford sponsored events around the world. She said he was the same guy in person you saw on TV selling cars or guest on a news show, dressed the same too. Described him as a gentleman in every way, never a bad word to say. Confirmed what I had always thought.
 
Just when you thought the oil you were buying is the oil you were buying :) -- they quietly change it on you ...


Apparently the shortage of certain types of oil bases due to the Strait of Hormuz blockage is causing automotive manufacturers to quietly reformulate their the oil they use. The above article only talks about oil from car manufacturers, but it seems likely this will affect name brand oil products also.

The API is temporarily letting them use slightly less advanced base stock for oil to keep oil on the shelves, so the oil we buy now might be slightly lower quality than it was previously.
 
There are three refineries that make the base oil from natural gas. All affected by the...conflict. Pennzoil Ultra is one of the ones I use that is changing. I have one oil change stashed. Not sure what oil I'll use but it won't be the new formulation of Ultra. Lake Speed Jr. The Motor Oil Geek has an informative video on yootoob.
 
My mechanic has a 55 gallon drum of "jobber" synthetic...no clue who makes it but he swears by it. He should know, as he was a racer and still builds cars & engines. Knows his schtuff and I trust his advice.
