2015 trying to bring it back, some help please.

I used a solder wick and iron for a while, but that takes two hands, with the combo sucker/iron, you only need one hand for the iron and the other can hold components or the board while you are de-soldering. It really is great. Rich
 
The link provided brings up a $952.00 CDN ,unit lol. Maybe not the same one as yours and a lot more than $175.00. When I first started into this hobby I had no idea it would lead me to where I and right now. I think it will require more and better equipment than I started with that's for sure. I still have a bunch of units that need to be done. I never would have guessed that I would have even come this far. This all started with a $20 Pioneer receiver that I tinkered with and I was nervous as hell not having a clue what I was doing. My GF actually pushed me by always saying " you'll figure it out "!!

Hey, Rich, I have the same desoldering station - ZD-985. And it works perfectly well. I'm using it between 270 and 300° С. Never lifted a trace so far. Just have to change those white round filters for the pump from time to time. And I see it's available in US too: click
 
Hey Ton4eff, I know it was a cheap one, but I love it! I was amazed at how much solder it had pulled when I cleaned it the first time. Happy Restoring!! Rich

What strikes me as odd and, to me, points to a power issue is both am and fm are dead, no sound no tuning, no meter deflection at all.
 
nothing yet ..am being disturbed with beyond thunder-dome right now ..damn tv sucking me in .
tell you the truth tuners arent my thing .
