22XX Wood case

Simple question: Should the marantz receiver be put into the wood case with the original top and bottom metal covers?

Thank you,

Tom

It's a great "simple" question, Tom. Don't know if anybody knows for sure, but my thinking is a bit split on this. I'd much prefer to let the chassis and all the hot parts breathe easier by removing the metal case. But, I'm also concerned about stray RFI getting into the tuner sections when the metal case is gone. Anybody here ever done a comparison.....heat buildup OR RFI leakage?

Thank you for the quick response. Several years ago I purchased a 2245 and it did not have the metal top on it.
Recently I purchased a 2250 and it did have the metal wood grained top on it. The guy I bought it from said he purchased it after he got his first tax return! I also said it was an option. I wondered if the case was installed by the shop when he purchased.

I also purchased a reproduction wood case for a 2265b. I still need to drill the recess for the different foot location.

I didn't really answer your question but you DID bring up something that I've thought of over the years. Heat is always the enemy of electronics and if I had an amp or receiver that ran hot all the time, I'd probably leave the metal case off......OR try to figure out why it's running hot! ;-)

i used to leave them off but after getting some weird noise from from my cell phone when i got close to a couple of them i put them on now. some of the 2265b and 2285b were sold with a modified WC-22 wood case installed, euro models mostly i think and they did not have the metal covers with them. The WC-122 wood case was listed in the owners manual as the case for the 2265b & 2285b but that case requires a metal cover as the rear top is just open no screen, Those are the only ones that i know of that came without the metal case. The 2245 was sold with the metal top and the wood case was a separate option.

Thank you Chrisxo55441!
That 2285B looks sweet! Which case do you prefer?

I have one as well, but it needs some work!

I leave the metal case on with my units. If heat were to become a problem would use a fan over removing the metal top. Only due to not wanting to have the top go MIA in the future. When I'm no longer able to find it ....

Speaking of Asaalah, has anybody heard from him lately? I emailed him a few days ago but no answer yet. I'm hoping it's not health issues, but you never know.
