You should be fine leaving the metal case on, then sliding the 2245 in the wood case. Or you can try either way, and see if there's a temperature difference.

I have 3 Marantz receivers with wood cases and if you look at the setup it stands to reason it WILL be cooler running without the metal case enclosing it inside the wood case. All mine are off.

on

The wood case is made to go over the metal case.
The cooling is by the heat rising through the heat sink.
Air flows from the bottom up through the heat sink and out the top.
That is what the holes are for.
Taking the metal case off before putting on the wood case won't get you anything.
The wood is a natural insulator.
There are no more holes with or without the metal case.
The metal case will act like a heat sink too. So just as more mass to absorb heat it can help.
The old electronics were not as heat sensitive as the new "push it to the limit" computer stuff.
IF you are having an overheating problems, then there is something wrong and the unit needs repair or restoration.

Always ran mine with the metal case on. I bought them together back in the day, followed the instructions to install the wood case, I'm sure they didn't say to remove it or I would have!!

The metal cover on the 2245 was meant to be left on underneath the wood case. Later models like the 2285B did not have the metal case when purchased with the wood case.

thank you

i am happy for all the responses.. i am going to keep the case on!!

your detailed responses have made me realize that the metal case should

stay on!!!:thmbsp:

2275

When I got my 2275 new is 1975 I also got the wood case.
The installation was over the top of the metal case.
Every case I remember reading said "do not remove screws" so the "owner" was never meant to take the case off.

Ridiculous. There are a million holes in the metal grate in the top of the wood case allowing air to circulate. Since my original receiver I bought in 1979 has worked perfectly without the metal case (came from the factory that way) I assume I'm doing something right.

My 2015 has both and I think it was bought that way because I don't think they were ever removed.

I put my 4270 in a wood case without the metal case. I doubt that it will hurt it more than it will help it.
