2500 from beyond the realms of death

Tone and soft start boards are finished. I haven't found any bad reviews for the op amps. I'm hoping they are still functioning properly so I can leave them in. That won't be for a while...

Ok , the power supply is finished, was waiting for some parts. Everything was replaced but the films and 1/4 watters and the noble. This board has never seen better days! I cleaned up the relay contacts as well. No pitting, so it's going back in.

Looking fantastic! Are you sticking with one brand of caps, or are you just going with whatever fits? I think I have seen Silmic and Nichicon's so far...

I prefer the Silmics above the rest of the audio caps, but I can't get every value and voltage. They have a higher ripple rating so I like them in the power supply too. For the higher voltage caps Im using Nichicon PS. They are specifically for power supplies. I like the Nichicon FG as well and for the 10uf 100v locations throughout , I'm using them only because I have quite a few.

The wire mess is next. I cringe looking at the pile, but it will be done before I know it.
 
Well thanks for the pictures guys, they have been a life saver. These pictures look worse than it is, but a lot has been sorted out. Unfortunately the solid strand wire has been moved so much that they have broken off randomly. By process of elimination I have found most of their homes. Also making sure they are separated, not to cause a short. What a PITA!

The riser for the rear of the scope and the stand off for the scope board are missing so I will have to fab those. Thankfully nothing detrimental has come up missing. I even have the cover for the decoder socket.

I'm done for the night my friends.

:thmbsp:I never saw ( except on the web) one of these. I'd be surprised if it bested (audibly) other vintage receivers ( the better ones anyway, perhaps their equal). I'm still impressed with the look of it and wowed by your detailed restoration (especially from the pile of pieces you apparently started with. I salute you. Keep up the good work!
 
Great labour of love and dedication. Takes much patience and skill to get to this stage. Keep the pics coming. Following the progress.

@ njphoenix: Once rebuilt they do sond very clean but not "sterile".

That picture does look pretty bad to me and I've been inside one of these. Best wishes on the busted wires - what a pain indeed. :sigh:
 
Well it doesn't look like much, but a lot was done. The protection relay board was the last to be done. the contacts were cleaned and checked for proper contact. This thing will look like a mess until all the wires are fixed and located. Then they will be cleaned up:yikes:








 
I finished up the filters today. I bought the board on ebay pretty cheap. It definitely made things easy and clean.:D














 
OK, now that is slick! I remember seeing the pic of the unfinished board earlier in the thread and wondering what it was for. Nice idea and implementation. I love this resto!
