Planning to tube roll these tubes on my amp. Noticed though that the pins are all the same, does this mean that I can just plug into the socket in no special order? Thank you.

My amp uses both tubes. Unlike a 12ax7 where the pins enter the socket in a certain way, the 6sn7 looks like it will enter the socket in any order due to the pin configuration. Just wanted to be sure that this tube was designed to fit the socket in any order.

The "octal" tube should have a key that will only allow it to be inserted one way.

A 6SN7 is similar to a 12AU7, a medium-mu twin triode. A 6SL7 is similar to a 12AX7, high-mu twin triode.

Whilst theoretically, the octal could be substituted for the miniature 9-pin tube and vice versa, the 6SN7 filament current is double the current of the other three tubes at 600 ma, vs 300 ma. So that needs to also be taken into consideration.

Octals have a locating pin, they only fit in the socket one way. If the center locating pin is broken, there are repair pieces but no you cannot just plug the tubes in facing any direction and have it work.

no.

they fit only way one unless big plastic center pin is busted.
the tubes are very different and not drop in reppacements for each other.

in addition, 5691 is not a drop in for 6SL7 despite what sellers tell you. it has 2x the heater current, so u must find out if your gear can cope with that without damage.

what amp u talkin about?

Yes it does. Just wanted to try the RCA 6sn7 and 6sl7 smoked glass tubes. Just wanted to be sure before i install the tubes.

Upon closer inspection of the plastic center , i noticed the pin you are referring to. Thank you all for your help.
