A/D/S line pecking order?

So i have the L1290’s ( tweets mids and crossovers refurbished by Richard So) hooked up to a CJ PV 12 pre and a recapped Marantz 300 D C amp (150 wpc). At mid volume or higher they sound incredible. However, at lower volume the low end just isn’t there. I have contemplated a more powerful amp such as a Mccormack or CJ in the 200 watt plus range. Also looked at a sub like an SVS to cover the lower HZ.

If anyone has some advice or suggestions on this it would be much appreciated.

I’m struggling with the same thing to an extent with my 3-way SAT7’s connected to B&k monoblocks and Marantz AVR (current model).

What I find lacking is mid bass punch from a snare drum. I’m trying to play around with it now and will let you know if anything helps.

I recommend either a Yamaha MX-2 or Yamaha MX-1.

I did the research comparing the MX-2 and MX-1, the specs are pretty much the same. You will save money buying the MX-2 and lose only 50 watts of power. Both have a damping factor of 250, and can handle 2 Ohm loads.

The MX-2 doesn't color the music, leaving it clear and transparent, allowing a connected preamp to be heard as the makers intended. Every note is played with clarity, exactness, authority.

I rebuilt my Yamaha MX-2, and it drives my Richard-So-rebuilt (tweeters, mids, and crossovers) ADS L1590/2's with ease, and the bass SLAMS!!!, even at low listening volumes.

ADS and Yamaha don't disappoint! I love them both.

I have always noticed this too, but since my over the top latest amp I have all the bass even at super low volume. Not sure why but I am using 500 watts into 4 ohms. Speakers max out at recommended 300 watts. Maybe it is power but not sure. But it is sure nice to still have the low end without eq or the good old loudness engaged.

Thanks for the reply Plugto. I can see an amp in my future. 500w is a beast. I bet that can double as a space heater!

So little update, I’m thrilled with the results of some recent changes to my setup. I bi-amp’s my SAT7’s and moved up the crossover to 120 and set my subs to cross at the same. Given the better placement of the subs for bass and less power demand from sat’s plus feeding them more power seemed to do the trick. Absolutely blown away, stayed up till 3:30 am listening to them!

Re-foam?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Should be butyl rubber surrounds. ADS never used foam. Don't advertise on this forum, ADS lovers know to stay away from messed up products.

Some early versions did have foam surrounds, but by far most have rubber.

I have to ask with respect, were they refoamed by someone or factory foam? Can't wrap my head around ADS with foam.

I have a pair of a/d/s/ L520, a stand mount 2-ways with nice detail and tight bass.
The L570's might be essentially the same but with a larger woofer. I havent heard them but I sure like the 520's.
Not a rock n roller IMO but great for jazz and the like.
