The speakers are likely 60's- early 70's kit/diy speakers from when you could by the drivers, crossover, and cabinets from catalogue.

The silver dustcap reminds me of some of the early JBL woofers, I'm not very knowledgeable with early JBL but id guess its a 2220a or similar by what I found on google.

You never really know until you open them up though:dunno:.

Little doubt that those are D130's visible through the grill, and it appears there is 075 peeking through the lower right corner of the left grill. Cabinets are pretty close in proportion and aspect of C38.

Thank you. I have no experience with JBLs so had no clue what I was looking at.

Those look like estate sale pics, I hope you buy them if they are a good price especially since JBL's of that era are rare and a little overpriced.

You might not have room though if they are as big as I think they are.

I was looking through an old audio magazine today and found a JBL ad.
looks like bowtie was pretty on point with what would likely be in the unit, its probably a 001 or 002.

Oh wow !!! that is a Fisher 500C sitting on top those speakers !!! man that is a score that was high end in 1964 35 watts per channel tube receiver working in nice condition they can sell for $2000 or more get that and the JBL C38 that stuff was more than likely bought at the same time 58 years ago in the mid sixty's. That is an instant killer system !!!! and it's all American made. Man go buy that Fisher 500C and the JBL's and please keep them together.
Thanks for the information. I’ll head over today and check it out.

The speakers were sold first thing for $300. The guy running the sale said the crossovers were never hooked up and the cabinet construction was total shite.
The Fisher is priced at $800 and a filthy Pioneer RTR is $400.

There is a part of me that likes sales like that - I get to dream about exciting possibilities, but don't actually have to take responsibility for them. Paying for them, storing them, fixing them, and then finding a buyer (or a place in the living room) for them is a lot less fun than searching for them.
I say this having almost bought both JBL Paragons and Metregons, on two different occaisions having made sure that I was first in line in the morning, only to find that someone had made an offer prior to the sale and had snagged them. At least I got to see the Paragons - moving something that large (even if it can be lifted apart into three pieces) requires some organization and preparation so they were still there, manuals and all paper work and so on.
And that was actually balm to the would of having missed out on getting them - I was in no way able to deal with such an object(s).
I'm still sore about not even seeing the Metregons.
