across the bench: an electronic menagerie of diagnostic oddities plus photos and design analysis

Ocelot Update later, spots unsubject to change….
My very best to YOU.
Keep Rolling like you do..

Celadon sez YOU ROCK!

My 500B looks entirely different.
excellent observation, it appears to be a 400 now that i am somewhat more consciously aware of my recent photo binge.

would have been nice if i had taken a photo of the model number on the chassis. or done 30 seconds more visual awareness of an obvious error. must be a holiday or something...

I’m sure it sounds similarly delightful.

technics sa700 - 4.jpg
this one needed lots of spray and lots of exercise mechanically before the preamp section decided to let anything through.

technics sa700 - 5.jpg
bit of a mess to disassemble, doing a recap has some difficult areas to contend with

technics sa700 - 6.jpg
also output relay was mechanically weak so removing its cover for mechanical recalibration was needed so that a finger tap to the cover doesnt cause signal loss. bending toggle contacts slightly towards destination contacts helps plus the usual cleaning of both metal pad surfaces.

been down this road a few times.

technics sa700 - 8.jpg
usual idle numbers inspection for the sa-700, especially after servicing the relay and its importance for doing an accurate bias adjustment

technics sa700 - 9.jpg
thermals to see the high stress areas and what caps are getting cooked over time. also txf temp after some dynamic exercising.

yam pair.jpg
nice pair of yamaha components, tuner and integrated amp. basic testing and cleaning before they are out in the pending new showroom.

diy mod red-1.jpg
the modified little red nobsound amp is still being used. better performance since it can breath now, higher wattage output with better thermal control. two pair of bench speakers connected 2-3r dcr.

perhaps some ideas for variable capacitor volume control, even though it will have a xover effect until 20khz and higher.

perhaps a low resistance bandpass xover with a parallel switching cap. need to run some sims and z-calcs.

cost effective passive preamp, although around 70usd on amzn, factory 49usd.

free custom engraving on some of the jds gear, a noteworthy option.
