Hello. There's a pair of L710's on my local cl that need a refoam. The ad says make an offer. What should I offer?
Thanks

Highly regarded speakers. Have sold as high $500 on da bay and as low as mid 100's. I would offer $150-$200 depending on condition. $200 if near mint. Good luck and pics if you pick em up. :smoke:

I bought mine in the same condition and paid $50. At the time, the correct surrounds were not available, but if you do a search, you will find a thread discussing who offers them now.

Couple of things... first, if they have foam surrounds these are VERY early model L710's and that might influence what you would pay for them. Most L710's were built using rubber surrounds that tend to hold up indefinitely.

Second, have you priced the cost to refoam four woofers? Should have a good idea what you will have to spend to refurb these before making an offer.

You can probably find some completed listing data on eBay for ADS L710, which would make a useful reference.

Personally I prefer the later production models and wouldn't want to be into this earlier type for more than say $150-$175 after refurb, but YMMV.

Yup, it's pretty rare to run across a pair of a/d/s that doesn't have the rubber surrounds. I didn't even know they had an early foam version!

I'd pay up to $100 for those even with bad surrounds. I had L710s and they were superb speakers.

I also thought all woofers in the L series used rubber surrounds.

When I bought mine, it did not occur to me that the foam surrounds were less common, so I thought it would be a snap to just order some new surrounds and bingo, great set of speakers. Not the case.

The seller initially wanted $200 for them, but once I saw how rough the grill cloth, veneer and surrounds, it became a $50 deal. Got them home, sent RCobb a quick email to get some surrounds on the way, then he broke the news to me that the size was uncommon. Ugh. Spent a lot of time researching, trying to find them, but eventually had to cut down a larger surround with the right roll dimensions. Turned out great, but of course, if the correct sizes are made now, those should be used. And being it requires four surrounds, the price/cost goes up quickly.

Now they look/sound great after new cloth, veneer refinished and the surrounds. They are just the right sized speaker that can accommodate a wide range of music needs.

I think Cub Dog created the thread for the new surrounds.

Thanks guys, I found some surrounds on ebay from the guy at Goodhifi.com. Offered $100 to the guy on cl. no reply yet. I really like my little ads 2 ways and am excited to get some bigger speakers.

I've owned my 710's since 1980 and they are still kicking hard! Your gonna love them!

Great speaker! Have had mine for over 10 yrs. They were my Dad's previously. I previously had 810s. Paired with a sub or two, I prefer the 710 but they don't lend themselves to extreme volumes as well as the 810 and larger models.

Do we even know if he got them? Appears he did. He has a rebuild thread from August showing the speakers. Early for sure.

Before I looked at the date of the thread I searched CL in Chicago and there was a slightly bruised pair of later model 710s for 200 bucks. Seems about right but it is on cl an a lower offer is always proper.

Old thread! I did get them for $100 and I do like them very much. I refoamed all the woofs when I first got them and recapped the xovers and refinished the cabs this summer. I moved to a bigger house with an odd shaped room and am considering new speakers when the budget allows, but the 710s are a huge step up from the 80's fishers they replaced.
