Ads l810 vs Heresy ii - which one?

I would suggest that the Heresy would be "pickier". IOW, the ADS will sound better with a larger variety of music and will be more forgiving of your listening environment. That said, I have a much limited experience with the Heresy vs the ADS.

The Heresy is one of my favorite speakers, although I should mention I have a lot of favorite speakers lol. But I prefer the series 1 over the later iterations, no Crites "upgrades"

Had two pair, sold the raw birch and kept the oiled walnut, they're currently part of my bedroom system.

The others were in the main living rm with Dayton Audio Sub1200's from Parts Express as stands, connected in stereo preserves the Heresy sound only BIGGER now with 25hz capability, real giant killers.

I modified them for biamping with the Dynaco amps on top

if you plan on setting them on the floor I like spiking them, looks good, protects the bottom of the enclosures from getting scratched, and tightens up the bass considerably

The HERESY, is you had to add subs that are SMALLER than the actual Heresy speakers, to get FAR better deep bass......!!

The 710s use a pair of 7” woofers, which function equivalent to a single 10” woofer but with better dynamics. Still, the system is limited in bass extension. The 810 and my 1230 use a pair of 8” woofers which function equivalent to a single 12” woofer but again with more efficiency and better dynamics. Bass extension is much better. The Heresy has a 12” woofer and would be expected to sound better at least at low frequencies than the L710 with some material.

ALthough the Heresy have 12" woofers, they are designed for very low excursion and highish efficiency, NOT deep bass.

If you expect ANY deep bass at all, they will let you down.

I see them more as similar to a semi pro speaker you could use for sound reinforcement in a small church or maybe a jazz club, and so on, not a full range bass speaker.

Wasn't the Heresy originally intended for center channel use?

that's how "you" see it, well you're absolutely wrong, as you're also wrong about the size of the "12" subs" in the picture:crazy:

The Heresy needs no sub when "set up as designed", on the floor against the front wall where the bass will be augmented. They were designed this way, people used to place there speakers this way back in 1957 eh.

Try placing your bass heavy speakers designed to be out in the room against the front wall and tell me you like the muddy bass they now produce. Does this make them only useful as subwoofers lol? What a crock.

They were paired with subs because I wanted to pull them out into the room for better imaging, something most didn't care about in 1957 when the Heresy debuted eh.

The pair in the bedroom are placed as designed and need no sub, they actually have an abundance of tight, tuneful musical bass in this setup, so no, you're assessment is completely wrong.

I never had an issue with the bass in my Heresy, I had them against a wall on the floor, and the bass was full and deep. It was the harshness of the mids and highs that I couldn't stand. Some folks love them, so maybe it's just me.

64yrs virtually unchanged, they must do something right lol

it's all about synergy, I can see them not getting along with some gear.

That was my whole point about it being to subjective. They are both great speakers, op needs to listen to some horns before deciding.

I have not heard the L710s, but I have heard the L810s and cannot imagine two more different sounding speakers (Heresy vs L810). The bass is really not subjective, the ADCs simply go deeper than the Heresies. The horn drivers are like nails on a chalkboard to my ears vs the smooth domes of the ADC.....that is purely subjective I know.

Well, then it ain't just me, I was getting paranoid. But that's just me.

Again, that’s basically my point… OP needs a point of “reference”. Old dudes disagreeing and stating their personal dislikes really does zero to answer what the OP “will like”.
I grew up with K-Horns and Cornwall’s so I am admittedly a Klipsch fanboy. I prefer the KG4’s I had over the 710’s, same space same gears, apparently my youngest likes them more, I offered her the 710’s and she took the KG’s :dunno:

And the 710’s are great and may only go anywhere when I finally try some Tektons, Zu’s or find some Heresy's

If you have the room now maybe try a pair of Polk Monitor 7s or 10s. Heresy bass is not even on the same planet.

As @Grenadeslio has mentioned, Heresy bass is not an issue for me, and many others. And how would my 8802 that pulls 95% of my amp duty do with those ;)

Edit: my bubby has had 10’s since we both bought speakers (my first KG4’s) at the Naples NATO base back in the day. So that would be an easy try. Not a big fan in his system. Edit 2: but he is a working musician so there is that. I know many and their systems are typically just thrown in the room with zero thought ;)

The 10s do better with more headroom for sure. There are also a few different tweets (mine are the SL2000s) for them as well. I run my with a 110wpc Sony TA330ES and in a fairly big room, they are at each end of a 22' wall. They can take more power easily.

Heresy bass reminds me of the bass of the Optimus 27s you see on top of the Polks in the picture above. It is tight and fairly fast (the optimus bass is very fast), just rolls off fairly high. The Optimus 27s have a six in driver and a drone cone.

Here's my take on the Heresy sound, I've said this here before, with the Infinitys I'm there, the Klipsch they're here, so if wanting to invite Mick and the boys over for a jam session it's the Heresys.

if you like bass and want the Klipsch sound without a subwoofer you might like the KG-3.2.
klipsch-kg-3.2.jpg

purchased a pair about 8yrs ago, when I auditioned them for my brother in law he asked if he could hear them without the two subs in this picture, I said sure, walked half way over, turned and said "oh ya, they aren't on" lol.
image.jpg

They crank some rock & roll baby, and they're not expensive, think I paid $130 for my pristine pair, they might be more now. The Heresys pictured were $400 then, sold 5yrs later for $400, I like using gear for free eh.

I prefer the Heresy over the KG-3.2, my youngest boy who still lives with me has the 3.2's and loves them for his gaming etc.

Good luck, let us know ur views when u listen to Heresy. U wanna experiment or something's lacking in 710 that's making u go for Heresy?
I see you have enough Klipsch speakers to know the sound. For me, the heresy's need a sub but I believe you will find the clarity and liveliness to be superior and other than the Bass it will sound better than your other speakers. I like ADS but I don't think they have that mid you are looking for.

Another vote for the ADS for its (what I call) refined sound. Never liked the Hereseys when I owned them in the early 90's.
I now have ADS 710 and 1230. Also a pair Polk Monitor 7 (since they were mentioned), they are OK but not in the same league with ADS. To be expected of course since my Monitor 7 cost 1/5th of AD 710.
